I've got one. It's turkish and it sucks big style. It's so hard to play, I need smaller fingers. It's a funky little thing though.

try this http://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/chords/ch.pl

looking at it though there are some easier fingerings for some chords than they show, but that will get you started

I have a really good mandolin. I never just play it for fun but, I use it in recordings always. It's a really great instrument.

i have a bad beginner mandolin that ive been learning to play for a while. The lowest string wont tune correctly tho. Ive been picking up a bunch of stuff from mandolincafe.com. I highly recommend the tabs for boogie with stu by led zeppelin. my instructor also gave me a pretty good lick for aint no more cane by bob dylan and the band. im looking for a mandolin that has an electric tab for an amp under 200-300 dollars or so. any thought?

your right hand is similar, your left hand is different because it is tuned in perfect 5ths, not 4ths and 3rds like a guitar

its tuned like a violin
it only takes a little bit to get used to

try gettin new strings if the e wont tune up it worked for me

I saw a Oscar Schmidt (by Washburn) OB10E in one of the local music stores... about $200 Cdn I believe. It's got a pickup.

As for me, I'd really like to learn mandolin, but I need to get one first.

Does anyone know how I can get the mandolin notes played on Bernard Fanning's album 'Tea and Sympathy', I have irish mandolin and would be great to play some more tunes beside irish folk and blues?

I've been playing madolin for about 12 years now. I play bluegrass mandolin in a trio with my dad and my friend (looking for a forth person to play bass fiddle full time). The mandolin in my primary instrument for playing and composing on. I also play bass (electric and bass fiddle), guitar, ukulele, piano (haven't touched it for a few years), and tin whistle. Mandolin in the most fun out of all of the instruments I play. My great grandfather was a mandolin player and my dad found his grandfather's (my great grandfather) old Gibson A-3 mandolin (dated somewhere in the 1910's) in the basement one day when he was a kid. He taught himself. When I was little, I always used to listen to my dad play mandolin tunes, so I started learning on the A-3. This summer, I got myself a nice new (not vintage and worth more than my soul) Michael Kelly mando. It's a beautiful instrument and it sounds great. I'd recommend MK mandos to anyone looking for a nice mando without breaking the bank. Some day, I'd like to get myself a Gibby F-5. Phew, that was a long post.

I've been considering getting a mandolin for a while now. I've heard all the schnozz about the problem with "commercial-brand" mandolins, and after reading some stuff, I've decided to eventually buy one from an independent builder. I live in North Carolina, which the western part is practically the Bluegrass Capital of the world, and there are a ton of builders in the mountains. I would be supporting the little man, getting a quality instrument, and having an excuse to take a trip to the mountains :)

My friend plays mandolin all the time. He's an amazing violin player, so he just picked it up and started playing.

I've been playing mandolin for not quite a year yet, and I picked it up very fast, partially because i played a little bit of violin before that. It's really fun to play and hopefull I can get a good f-style one someday when i have enough money.

I just got one for Christmas. It's a lot of fun, if pretty fiddly. Setting them up properly is a chore, though.
