definitely if your gonna get a new set later update your cymbals, pedals, stands, etc, finetune your tuning ability. change your setups and find ultimately whats comfortable for you, percussion. the list is endless.

There is no way to make your drumset better. You can improve your playing abilities and all the skills you'll ever need to know to drum like a pro. Uh.. If you have the cash, buy better hardware and cymbals, but be happy you have a set to play on.

Definetly try some new heads. Remo Coated Ambassadors over clear ambassadors, or Evans Coated G1's over Clear G1's with an EMAD bass drum head. If you want some better cymbals that won't break you check out some Sabian Pro's or Pro Sonix. I used to use Pro's and they sound really good for the price. Just do it slowly. I'd replace Hi-hat's first, then your ride, then your crash. And then after that whatever you want. As long as you get your main cymbals sounding better.

lmao @ der meister's cartoon
I have a peavey set as well and I must say the best way to improve the sound of the drums is to put new heads on em. I put coated ambs on my toms and a powerstroke 3 on my bass and it made a world of difference. it also helps when you know how to tune them. I used to tune them as low as possible but when i actually learned how to (somewhat) tune they sound very nice actually. As for cymbals, only buy pro grade. I've recently been upgrading mine to Zildjian As and I have to say it's definitely worth it. Also you could get a double pedal if that's your thing.

For now, do nothing to your set. Improve your playing. Try looking into getting a job also. Save up and buy a new set and pro cymbals.
