Hi all, i play a few diferent styles of metal and i was wanting to know what type people tend to like the most. for an example, like a fast and thrashing style, or a slow a heavy style, or like sort of a mix like lamb of god. whatever it is you like please name it. remember, this is for hardrock and metal.

I enjoy 80s thrash metal (Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax) and progressive rock and metal (Rush, Kansas, Yes, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) and also good ol classic rock like Boston and Led Zeppelin.

i could say classic rock, but thats so vague I'm gonaa get a bit more specific.
Pop-rock, blues-rock, hard-rock, and prog-rock are probably my favorites.

Not much of a metal fan. I like the forefathers of metal, though (Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath).

Melodic Death Metal, Technical Death Metal, *some* Brutal Death, Gothenburg, and a lot of the more classic bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica (stuff by Steve Harris and Cliff Burton are always fun to play).

Anything and everything really,I love playing Funk on my bass, it's just so...funky. But I love Harris Gallop rhythm.
Guitar wise, the only stuff I don't really like to play is stuff that's just boring powerchords, it's got a decent rhythm to it, then powerchords are ok, but it's just so boring.

I prefer the more straight up thrash stuff like Pantera.
I do listen to a lot of different types of metal but never felt attached to a particular type, all that satanist inspired metal is often silly to me.

Pantera isn't thrash. They're groove. Testament is thrash.

I like a lot of pro my two faves at the moment being Rush and Coheed and Cambria who in my mind are both great bands. I also enjoy a lot of other proggy metal bands like Opeth and Stratovarius.
I like power metal: Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica
Actually I won't bother saying what type of metal I like because there's too many. Though I've never managed to get into Black Metal or the more brutal styles of Death Metal.
As I'm a sucker for a cool poppy hook I like a lot of pop-rock as well.
And finally anything that mixes blues, fusion or jazz with rock or metal (although you have to be careful with this genre because there are a lot of seriously rubbish bands who reckon they're the bussiness cause they have a mandolin player or whatever).
HELL YEAH SATAN POSTCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well okay when i think Pantera though i just think of generic metal, thrash seemed to fit best as a subgenre. What are some other groove bands?

Disturbed is pretty rythm oriented, Static X, Fear Factory has a lotta groove shtuff, Rammstein, Tool like to use off timing for interesting grooves but nothing funky, Mudvayne's LD50 had some groovin, especially on Nothing To Gein, those are the harder bands I can think of that use groove from time to time. If youre looking for stuff outside the heavy, listen to a lotta 70s pop, disco and funk and some of the plain ol rock bands like Styx (Blue Collar Man, Renegade), Led Zeppelin (Trampled Underfoot, Immigrant Song) Rush (Limelight) and especially Yes (Siberian Khatru and Roundabout) THATS some groovy material if there ever was any------------------------------^

I think he was saying that bls are groove metal. Anyway, i like thrash and power metal. I also like trivium, but only them, not the whole metalcore thing.

They aren't metalcore. Neither are the other bands you're thinking about when you lump them together.

Need I even say? :p Yes, black metal is my favourite, but power metal is also one of my favourites as well. I'm also starting to really enjoy Funeral Doom and Drone doom, although I wouldn't go boasting about it as I haven't heard alot yet.
