My drum teacher let me borrow a Dave Weckl Band cd, and I think hes is unbelievable. Is this just me, or do you guys like him too? If you do like him, could you suggest other good drummers to listen to that are like that?

Ha, you saw that video. I wouldn't compare Gadd to Weckl, their styles are COMPLETEY different. Vinnie is different too, but they're both speed players

weckl has nothing on Joey Jordison
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
No serious;ly though Weckl is one of my favorite players, although I heard though that he is an arsehole to work with, one of my music teachers said that he recorded with him once and said he was a huge arsehoel. I would be too if I was a badd-arsed set player.

Wouldn't be suprised because he is a perfectionist, so he probably is but it shows in his playing.

Weckl is the man, he's the obessive compulsive master. Seriously he's gotten so good now the man can play anything and play it perfect.
I remember seeing one of his OLD videos and he wasnt that impressive, now he's one of the best players in the world. Him and steve smith are 2 guys who always blow me away. Their so damn good.

I've honestly heard absolutely NOTHING of Steve Smith, I saw a picture of his dvd and he kind of scared me, he looks like a pedophile or something.

Don't judge me on the other post, mistake of words. If you are talking about only the Steve Smith its ignorance. Hope that isn't sarcasm in the first sentence... You sly dog you...

Dave (and others like him) are the few people who have turned a mental illness into something great.
The only way you get to that level is from severe obsessive pathology.

Alot of people refer to him as the "drum god".I collect drum solos and one of his stills ranks as my fav of all time.(although it's only audio so I can't see any technique which sucks)
I also have the newest Steve Smith video. He's one of the small ammount of players that can be in Dave's league. Also AKira Jimbo,Greg Bissonette,Minneman,I'm forgetting a few.....

I studied Weckl a LOT for a while. He is definatley a great player, though I don't admire his taste sometimes. His latin stuff is very good, though sometimes his jazz playing sounds more like a drum machine than a drummer, which is the only gripe I have with him(He's a little TOO precise, sometimes).
Yeah I've got a few books by him. He's a great drummer - very skilled and has great rhytm.

I would just like to use this thread as a vehicle to once again reinstate how awesome I am. This is the autograph on the back of a t-shirt I got from Dave after one his clinics I attended. It reads: Groove On, Rocky Dave Weckl. Dave's a really cool guy despite the reputation he has of being an asshole, or at least I can say he was cool the night I met him.

I tried to say something similar about Mike Mangini in another thread...

I have Back to Basics. It's a good video. Dave is an excellent drummer though. He seems like he'd be sort of a **** though. I've never met him, so he could be a wonderful man. He just kind of gives off that vibe on his videos. (at least to me).
I also have a John Blackwell dvd, Technique, Grooving, and Showmanship. I really like that one. He's a great player, and really entertaining. He also seems really humble.
Steve Smith is also excellent. I really want to get one of his videos.
I also really like Stanton Moore and Akira Jimbo.
Listen to Chick Corea-Akoustic Band. The drumming on that album is so innovative, considering it was released in the eighties.
Oh him, yeah. He's alright, but not as good as travis barker!
Are you serious?

Of course man. Travis owns weckl. Weckl could never play like travis barker.

Weckl is the man. One of the best. Others who match him:
Virgil Donati
Vinnie Colaiuta
Steve Gadd

Yes, I believe it's called "Travis - Drum god in a 12 year olds body."
......
Dave's a good guy. Gotta keep it in context though. I'm not sure how I would handle such fame.
Imagine having your face be plastered all over the drum mags, cymbal lines your created, people constently bugging you for whatever, having to do clinics for companies, the pressure to contiunly produce, etc etc
That said, I'd say vinnie is prob the most humble person I've met concerning what he does. Chapin as well. Dom as well, but he's just so dang happy all the time it scares me!

I wonder how often his wife takes his underpants off and screams "THIS.......IS HU... TIIIIIIIIIIIIINY!"

oh but seriously, I'm sure he's a great guy to be around.

Hahahaha, stfu for a second? Everything over here is more expensive than in the states. Be grateful you get gear so much cheaper. It just so happens that the $319 I paid for a second hand IC is more expensive than a new one which is $299.99, but it's over $500 for new in the UK. I rang up a drum shop over here and they said the price I'm selling my old pedal was not far off the mark because construction on the old DW's is very good if not better than today. So theres no ripoff and you're talking out of your arse again.

Heh, just making sure josiah has finally grasped that no ripoff took place.
There was no stealing candy from a baby, my ex student knew exactly what he was doing, has a mind of his own and had plenty of opportunites to change that mind. He was adamant he wanted the pedal even after I asked him several times if he was sure. At the end of the day, it's his decision. I'm not about to turn down an offer of replacing my pedal for an Iron Cobra out of some sort of guilt josiah thinks I should be feeling, lol. I'll say it again. He wanted the pedal. Something is only worth whatever it's worth to that person.
Haha he's just givin ya a hard time.

Yep jim, I'm getting round to taking some pictures for you all. They'll be up later. Even came with a carry case! :thumb:
