In 2005, many bands were born and many died, but indie music is not that popular and we know some of the BIG indie bands like Interpol and Postal Service, but the question is what band is so fantastic that gets little attention. My choice is Dredg, whats yours. The winner will be announce on the the brianmcleod237 blog (http://brianmcleod237.blogspot.com). Theres no prize but heres a smily face cheers.

Despite the fact that the chili peppers are very successful, I think John Frusciante's stuff is nothing short of brilliant. Yet until a few months ago, I had no idea he had solo albums!

yeah dude..i love them..i really liked their first album and the radio hit was probably the worst track and its still a good song.
i think Incubus doesnt get half the respect they should, expecially on ACLOTM
Third Eye Blind is another talented band that doesnt really get alot of props. i think their guitarist is definatly in my top 10 and their drummer does Bonham-like paradiddles. and the bassist is very creative. and the lyrics arnt that bad at all aside from "doot doot doot, doot da do do"
other bands:
TV on the Radio
Minus the Bear
Spoon
Ambulance Ltd
i'd pick them anyday over some Panic at the outhouse
for Ben Gibbard said it best, "i've heard enough disco punk in the past year to last me the rest of my life"

SSSLLLLAAAAYYYERRRR!!!!
That's my codeword for "I'm drunk and juggly puffed" during the festival season.
Anyway, the most underrated bands are dEUS and The Delgados (even though they are broken up).
Also: The Walkmen.

War at the Warfield? The playing was very tight but the overemphasis on the image and lame brained fans turned me off a bit.

Im going to say modest mouse. They had 15 minutes of fame, when they surely deserved atleast 45. Also, SOAD. Mainly them because their older stuff got constant radio play and you rarely see any of their new double-album songs on the tele. Though the new albums are up to par with their old stuff (though many people dont seem to think so). But more, so, Modest Mouse deserves more.

Ah, but if they got really big, all the indie snobs would cry sellout.

thats true, but thoughs people arent being very respectful. Its not the bands fault that people like their music. When people call a band a seelout, I think they are just stupid. Unless they are talking about The Misfits...amazing music, but I dont know why they are producing skateboards and fridge magnets.

they're not really underrated at all. they had a few hit singles and a lot of the british public know who they are
Songs:Ohia are criminally underrated/unknown.

I pretty much agree with everything you said here.
It seems to me that Nick Cave is criminally underrated. I love his music, but you barely ever hear about him in music news or anything like that. Maybe it's just me.

??????!!!!!!
first of all, about SOAD:
i can not make it 10 minutes without seeing some braindead muscle-head kid with spy sunglasses, tatoos, and a backwards hat driving down a road in a pickup truck covered in offroading stickers, blasting the new SOAD stuff from the speakers. and then i turn on the radio and what do i hear? "everybody's goin to tha party have a real good time!" AHHYHHHHHHHFTJFDG! then i get home and turn on the TV, and i skim past MTV and see their singer's ugly face yodelling to bad metal riffs. EUGH.
and then, Modest Mouse. i'm glad they're not famous anymore. they were decent before their 15 minutes. their music was cool, and their fans were respectable.
then all of a sudden, ditzy cheerleaders are walking around in Modest Mouse shirts, 14 year old scene girls and raving about them, everyone is just obsessing over this band. now, their 15 minutes are up and i'm happy. the idiots are done with them.

M83 is underrated. And it also seems that Azure Ray doesn't get much attention.
Modest Mouse's new album sucks a lot. The Moon and Antartica is much better.
