None of them.......
No Pete Shand, 'Bosco' Mann, Gary Crockett, Rich Hindes, Ray Hunter, Ernie McKone etc. on that list.....
You guys need to go out and listen to some funk.......;)

You need to get off your elitist high horse and read the poll again. "blues, jazz and funk". Not just funk.

even in my town there are no decent bass players. well there is one who is actually supreme. I play with him on occasion but he is a fair bit older than me(and that matters when your still in high school).

Those guys also play jazz and blues when required - some even do a load of latin, afrobeat and some rock now and again.
All of them play with great 'feel' and understanding of groove, rarely use cliches such as fx pedals, slap or pop, which (IMHO) are all too prevalent in the majority of recent jazz/funk/blues recordings

are we talking about the same marcus miller?
But I agree with you on the other people, and MM sometimes. There is a lot of little hooks going on, which are just annoying.

What an unbelievable copout.
"Jeez, you guys need to listen to some FUNK"
"The guy didn't say funk, he said funk/jazz/blues"
"yeah...well...they play those on occassion as well..."
I personally don't really like the list either but if I was to draw up my own list, Marcus Miller would probably be near the top of it. FX pedals, and slap bass are only 'clichés' if they're used in a derivative way. IMO, Marcus Miller doesn't use either of these in a 'standard' way, and even if he did, he was one of the pioneers of both of these things.
