I reciently had to do some fretboard work on my 69 Jazz. It had developed a small rise at the end of the neck where it meets the body. I had to defret it so I could sand the rise out of it. While I had the frets off I decided to make it a fretless seeing as I wanted one anyway. I inlayed white plastic for the fret markers then I gave it about 20 coats of gloss urethane. Here's the result.

I think the white fret mrkers go well with the white binding.

Nice stuff.

I thought it was a new bass you had built, though. :upset:

you modded a 69 jazz? why not buy something less priceless to defret?

EDIT: you did do it well, though. nice.

Did you do the binding or was that already there?

Were the mother-of-pearl inlays there as well?

No major thing. It's kind of a bastard jazz. The pickups are not original and neither are the electronics.

Ha, very nice sir. I guess being a lutier is useful in many ways.

Are the pieces actually inlaid or did you just get super-thin pieces and lay them over the top?

Also, did you do the binding or was that already there?

The binding was there. I inlayed the plastic strips.

Very nice.

&& They do go well together.
It keeps making me want to think it's still fretted, though.
Oh well.

That is a really sweet fretless, the plastic strips makes it almost look fretted.

Good job :thumb:

What pickups/electronics did you put in there? Are you thinking about changing them now its a fretless?

Nice job, that neck is damgerously shiney though.Maybe you'd be safer if you gave it to me:p

Seriouly though, the fret markers really suit the neck, looks like you spend quite a while getting that just right.
