View Full Version : Ancient sounding bands
I'd like to listen to some bands which have this certain kind of sound. Like in Dream Theaters - In The Name Of God or Jay Gordon - Slept So Long (From the soundtrack of Queen of the Damned).
Echoed vocalist, minor 2nd scales etc. You get the idea.
Anyway, I don't know any bands who sounds like that. Just few songs by random artists. I don't care if it would be deathmetal, industrial or whatever. Genre doesn't matter this time.
Also feel free to let me know of some songs at least if you don't know about bands!
EDIT: Oh and by the way, I guess violinists wouldn't hurt

Good medieval sounding bands:
Nazgul (from Italy)
Arathorn
Summoning
Thanks, but I guess I am after more sinister or "egyptian" sound.

Nile is good. Check out Ulver's Kveldssanger album, it's well worth it.

Demigod by Behemoth has some crazy harmonic minor scales. Especially the first track, Sculpting The Throne ov Seth.

Definitely Therion. Check out "Rise of Sodom and Gammorah," "In the Desert of Set," "Uthark Runa," "Wine of Alluqah..." the list goes on. Or, if "ancient" also applies to other old cultures, they also wrote an entire album based on Norse Mythology called "Secret of the Runes." Damn fine stuff.
I'd also call to mention After Forever. Based on what you're saying, you'd probably like "Pledge of Allegiance Part 1," as well as "Through Square Eyes." The band had a very strong strings presence on "Decipher," almost to the point of overpowering the guitars! Quite interesting, and very well done.

Nile would fit you great. They have ancient instruments used, and lyrical influences. Though they have an ancient sound to them they are still pure brutal death metal.
On a side note doesn't Karl Sanders remind you of Kernal sanders? you know... the KFC guy?

The Reign of Shemsu-Hor, by Behemoth on Demigod. I don't know what song is more ancient sounding than that one, especially the intro!
