Is $600 enough to get a good 4 string?

And if so, give me some info on the best one/personal favorites.

I like the Spector Legend Series.
You could also pick up a used Warwick Corvette Standard for that.
Used Spector ReBop
Fender Standard Series/used American Series

http://www.basscentral.com typically stocks all three brands, new and used.

Add a Musicman S.U.B, and a Lakland Skyline. Also on BassCentral.

Used Geddy Lee/Fender P bass/Fender J bass or new precision special.

Or maybe a type of frankenstein using Warmoth/Rondo?

Ive heard that there are better basses than cort for the money, from a reputable source too. Bass Player (i think) reviewd the artisan 5, and didnt like it.

Depends on where you shop!
I bought a '98 American Jazz for $630 on Ebay less than two months ago.
You can usually find a good deal on a Fender Jazz or even a Warwick in if you keep an eye out for it.

i guess he's made his decision already. but for 600 bucks i'd go with an ibanez sr-500.

pros: light, fast neck, pretty slick look-wise, good pickups, totally active.
cons: bolt on. is that even a con? not made in america? does that even bother you? also, it only comes in one color.

honestly, that thing is my dream bass. then again, im financially challenged, and i dont like fender or musicman basses. call me a heretic.
