Just wondering what you guys think is the best bass for £1500 $2500 and reasons why you think it is.
Cheers
P.S.

Well, what style(s) of music do you play? What tones do you want/need? It's all preference.
I like Warwicks, personally. They look amazing and their tone is unpralleled. Definitely amazing basses.
High-end Spectors would be awesome also. The Euro series, specifically the Spector Euro LX, are amazing basses but are a bit pricey. They'd definitely be a bass I'd love to own, though.
You could get a custom Fender or something, too.

Buy several not so expensive basses?

^ I'd rather have one bass that's amazing than 5 basses or so that are mediocre. You'd get all the tones you want with a few knobs and the looks would (hopefully) be really great, so I'd rather have one amazing bass myself.

What this guy said.
Warwicks are outstanding. I have only played one, but I was blown away by the tone quality and the look of the bass.

I doubt a Warwick Thumb would be able to get the tones of an all maple custom shop Peavey Cirrus, and vice versa.
:p

Allow yourself to become part of the Sadowsky club.
Its the best heavy purchase I have ever made and I can honestly say I will never need to buy another bass again since I bought this I've sold my Spector & Stingray because they just have nothing on my 5 string vintage.

A used Wal or a Kubicki Ex-Factor.
Listen to "Power Windows", "Hold Your Fire", "Presto" or "Roll The Bones" for that Wal tone...
Kubicki...Stu Hamm's first three solo albums, Vail Johnson's records (oh yeah).

You know what I mean.
There are always distinct tones certain basses can get while others can't get them nearly as well, if at all (for example, growl from a J bass but not from a P, the P tone from a P but not from a J, etc.), but with a "good" higher-end bass, those options aren't as limited. Sure, there's still tones you can't get, but you can get close, or at least find something you're happy with. There's no need to have every bass tone ever made, anyway. :p

What "custom ****"?
For that amount of money, you should be going for a custom really, they will probably be amongst the best you can buy for that amount of cash.

Custom tbh. Rickenbacker. Or a highly modded bass. I mean very high.

for that money you could probably get a Stingray and some Warwick if you were thrifty with your money and maybe got one or both used...... that's what i'd do if i had that kind of money.

I think Pedulla Buzz 4's are around $2500, as well.

Jaded: The cheapest Ken Smiths are $2,200 or so (with Jazz pickups). Then come the $2.5k ones (the humbucker ones, which I'd recomment).
They are a one-piece body I think, and I can't remember how the neck is. They sound ace.
