Pleasantly suprised with this band, they got that post grunge feel but without sounding too much like ripoffs of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden etc. (This is despite the story of one of their earlier film clips being filmed in a blurry visual and many mistaking Scott Weiland was Edder Vedder, complimenting him on his new haircut). Scott Weiland has plenty of range and is a solid singer.

Great riffs and great songs (From what i heard so far at least, Meatplow, Interstate Love Song, Pretty Penny and a handful of others), i like this band so far. Anyone else like STP?

I'm surprised I haven't seen a STP thread. Great band.

I own No. 4 and I think it's there best work. Core is good to. I actually love Scott Weiland's voice.

I have Core and No.4, I love Core but never really got into No.4 (hey, i'm rhyming). I wll get Purple some day as I hear it's really good but I'm not in any rush. My favorite songs are Plush, Creep and Down.

Plush is one of my favourite songs. The album Core is ok but some of it is a bit boring but overall pretty good. Weiland has a good voice and the rest of the band are also pretty talented. The bassist is seriously underrated.

I have an odd question, and I don't exactly feel like looking up the answer now since I'm not on my computer at the moment, plus I want to test you guys and see if you're as dependable as the metaltabs forum.

But I was in my friend's truck and he had STP in and was listening to a song I never heard. It was the last song on the album and it was a sorta slow song with a really melodic chorus. I asked him what song it was and he didn't know but said it was the album with a flower on the disc. Also it had a secret song at the end. What is that song?

I don't have Core but have all the others. I like them ok. And I think Scott is a good frontman, if unreliable. Frustrating thing about this band for me is with every album Ive got from them I start off liking it a lot, but after awhile I just put it away. And I don't returm to it. Somehow it just stops sounding good to me. Or at least as good as it once did. It doesn't grow on me, I guess you would say. I made my own little "best of STP" CD and I listen to that sometimes, but even then I find myself skipping around. For me they are just a band that wears thin and loses there appeal upon repeated listenings. Good hard rock band, though.

I hate to say this and I will likely get flamed but Plush has got to be one of the biggest and most obvious rip-off of Pearl Jam possible.

I like STP casually, but most of their material is a bit slow and grungy for my liking. I think Scott's far more suited to the uptempo hard rock of Velvet Revolver, and I think Contraband eclipses anything STP put out. My favourite STP tracks are Crackerman and Interstate Love Song.

I like STP more than VR.

STP shirts are impossible to find, even on the internet. It sucks.

If you want more slow metal like Vasoline, Wicked Garden and Meatplow are a great place to start. For the faster, driving rock songs like STT, see Crackerman and for the acoustic balladry, Interstate Love Song, Plush and Creep.

Core.

How can you be disappointed with Core? It's probably their best album.

I like Scott Better w/ STP, he sounds different w/ VR. You can still tell its him but listen to plush than fall to pieces, theres a big difference. Probly the cigarettes.

By the way what do all of you think of Trippin on a Hole In a Paper Heart. Its my favorite song off Vatican Gift Shop.

STP albums in order of greatness:

No.4
Purple
Tiny Music...Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop
Core
Shangri-La Dee-Da

STP were a singles band mainly - that's why some people think their albums are disappointing. "Plush" does sound a lot like Pearl Jam but I think it's ten times better than other songs written in their name. The key is songs like "Big Empty", "Interstate Love Song" and "Big Bang Baby" still sound great.

The best CD to become acquainted with STP is "Thank You", even if "Hollywood Bitch", one of their best songs, is omitted.

Agreed. Thats prolly my favorite STP album. Dumb Love, Coma, Days Of The Week, Too Cool Queenie, underrated album.

Purple is pretty sweet too. Still Remains and Pretty Penny are extremely underrated and my favs on that one.

No. 4 is my favorite, I bought it when it came out (6 years ago?) after I fell in love with "Sour Girl" on MTV but much to my dismay it was way to heavy for my 9 year old years. So about 4 years later when I was 13 I was re-listening to all my albums and I feel upon this album, and it ended up becoming one of my favorite albums when I was in 7th grade.
Although I recently lent it to a friend like 5 months ago and I still haven't got it back... sorta mad bout that.

i like STP alot. they write songs that are easy to listen to. that being said, early on they rip-off the whole seattle thing quite a bit, but that doesn;t change that the songs are good. their singles are very good, and the albums alot of the time lack any direction, but are still decent. the one thing they did real well was age. none of their albums ever tend to sound similar. "sour girl" has always been a favorite of mine.
