Sorry for the confusion over at the equipment review section...anyways I was wondering whats the difference between effects for guitar and bass?

They're generally set to target different frequencies. You'll just have to experiment.
Also, unsure as to where this came from, but using guitar effects on bass will not "ruin" anything, except possibly your tone.

Yeah, some guitar pedals cut bass. For others it's fine.
Just look and see what tickles your fancy. :)
I am never saying that again. God.

I've heard the PH-2 is MUCH better than the PH-3. They can be gotten used on eBay for like 60-70 USD from what I hear.

haha I plugged my Metal Zone MT2 into my friends bass and got some crazy fuzz out of it. They both work, some effect might not work just because of frequencies though.

So I am guessing that they don't sell them anymore. Now what would be really helpful is if someone could tell me if they had played with both and which sounded better.

Yeah, completely missed the question. They are no longer made.

Do you know any like distinct differences between the two pedals? Or any reaosn why the older one would be better?

i've got several guitar pedals, most of which work fine for bass... yeah, it wont shine through well on lower notes but sometimes it'll work, depends how you do things i suppose.
it does no physical harm though......

Usually, bass pedals give a lower freq. effect and still hold down the bottom end, but guitar distortion pedals on bass are practically unrecognizable when you're playin with a band.

Indeed, also the PH-3 has these weird glitches that can cause it to break something about the circute board.
To here what the PH-2 sounds like just listen to any Incubus song, Mike Ezinger uses it in about every solo.

I use a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal on my bass and it sounds great, and that's a popular guitar pedal. Also, aren't Big Muffs "guitar" pedals as well?

It depends, mostly guitar FX pedals suck on bass.
I have an:
Marshall Guvnor
Akai Shred o Matic
Akai intelliphase
Jim Dunlop GCB-95
(mind you i modded the wah, oh btw GCb-95 = £50. 105q = £150odd RRP. difference? 105q is white, has a Q control and 1 different capacitator = RIPOFF)
All guitar FX and i love em all.

I have Boss DD-3 Delay pedal, works great for bass! Although it's not exclusively for guitar...

I've heard if Boss pedals aren't specified to be guitar or bass, they're meant for both.
Delay pedals don't really apply to the frequency rule anyway, as far as I know. However, I find things like guitar distortions and wahs suck when used on a bass.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you EADG, when I get the priviledge of soloing in my band I think my Crybaby wah helps me gain a sound that punches out more then just playing clean, distortion on bass however I would have to agree takes away from your playing.

Some guitar pedals sound hot
Ibanez + SWR + Danelectro Chorus + Love Thing = OMG!

You use a guitar crybaby on your bass? My friend used my bass crybaby on his guitar, and he lost all of the high end. When he played certain high notes, it wouldn't work.

I know, I just wanted to let people know because when i talked to some guys a rather dodgy local shop (the guys who re-sent Phalanx his broken cab), they gave the impression it was for guitar...thank goodness Sound Control was right around the corner, with the same pedal, and they knew what they were talking about.

I used a bass multi-FX pedal on guitar once.
Yeah, it doesn't sound that good.

Morley > Crybaby.
The metal zone didn't eat too much of my low-end that I remember, however, many of the digitech guitar effects I have used for bass certainly take away notes from the E and A string.

If you really want a Phase shifter though, there's the PH2 one.

Thanks for all the input, but what really interests me is that when I went to a local guitar shop, I asked the same question. Cept I got a completely different answer about the PH-3 saying that it would actually be better than the PH-2.... my orginal reaction is that they just want me to buy their crap. And I have been searching around for any flaws with the PH-3 and I haven't found any.
