Is it just me, or are these guys tragically underrated? I discovered them a while back via the YSI threads, but only recently have discovered that I think they're really good. Anyone else like them?

J. Mascis wrote all the basslines/recorded them anyway.
but yes, they deffinitely had a lot more of their deffinitive punk energy with Lou.

although their later more sentimental songs are still great.

Great band. Anyone interested in Mascis and Barlow should try Deep Wound, the hardcore punk band they were in before Dinosaur Jr.

sounds cool.
along with his singing, did Lou play guitar or bass in Sebadoh?
the bass playing sounded less interesting in that band.

He did a little bass work but mostly guitar I believe.

Sebadoh makes me happy.

They were my favorite band for a while, but now all i ever listen to is You're Living All Over Me. It's by far their best i think.

Great live band as well.

Dinosaur Jr's a great band, but I've been meaning to look into Sebadoh. Which album would be good to start out with?

get Bug.
or You're Living All Over Me.

just a question, but is anyone else annoyed by the album version of In a Jar?
the bass is really loud yet undistorted so it's just numb sounding, and the guitar is silent until the solo.

the BBC Sessions version is amazing however. loud and full of life.
also when they play it live now. it's my favorite by them, except i almost never bother with the original version.

I love the album version of In a Jar. It was the first Dinosaur song I heard and it made me love the band.

And for Sebadoh...get Bubble and Scrape if you're looking for more power-poppish stuff. Get III if you want some of the weirder acoustic songs.

No way, the songs on Bug are way more emotional. You can hear the band falling apart.

yeah.
YLAOM has more of the fun garage punk sound (although "Raisins" is very very powerful), but Bug has a more moving, strong sound.

It's probably one of SST's best releases and probably one of the more expensive ones to produce.

I love Dinosaur Jr, but I don't have as many of their Cd's as I'd like, and only one with the original line up!(Bug). I also have Green Mind and Where You Been which I really like, I actually prefer Where You Been to Bug  I saw them at Reading Festival last August and they 'rocked my socks off', an old man next to me was actually in tears.

Anyone heard much of J Mascis and the Fog? I have their BBC Sessions and Free So Free and they are both a nice listen, especially the title track of the latter.

Where You Been is definitely a good album, my favorite post-Barlow. And it has Not the Same, which is a beautiful song. But man, you need to get You're Living All Over Me, its a classic.

I downloaded a collection if Deep Wound songs recorded between 1982-84, but i havn't listened to it yet.
