The title of this thread says it all. Pick out 1 song that astonishes you these cunning days, and essay about it at will. Shoot!
dEUS - Bad Timing
This song can't be overlooked. And I will not stand for it, even if I have to degrade myself by whoring it obliviously.
The way the song builds up to it's climax is just so creative, yet simple. The more things are added to the music, the more the scattered parts become one beautiful whole. Those who have heard already it will know what I mean. I find this track mindblowing. I can't stop listening to it. To me, this is the best alternative rock song of 2005. There I said it.

Eh, I find dEUS's latest to be pretty boring.
My track of the moment, though it make not fit as well with this forum:
Ofo the Black Company - Allah Wakbarr
It's an Afrobeat tune put out in the 70s, and the only record I can find of this group ever actually existing (I got it off a great comp called Nigeria 70). It starts in perfect Afrobeat fashion with percussion at the forefront, but then, after the vocals come in for a bit, surrenders to the overwhelming power of a super-fuzzed out electric guitar, which manages to rock harder than a vast majority of all the rock I've ever listened to. It blisters.
Seriously, this is the coolest guitar work I've heard in a very long time. Grab it from my getfile or Oink or something, it's a must hear.

Muse - Showbiz.
Everything a rock song should be.
^I think you might be missing the point, your supposed to enthusiastically whore everything you love about the song. 6 words doesn't really cut it.
Oasis - Masterplan In general I find Oasis quite boring, but every so often they come up with a song that just amazes me; this is one of those songs. All my favorite Oasis songs (minus Married With Children) have Noel singing, I'm really not sure why that is, I love both their voices in different ways. I love how this song moves from a verse which is based around a simple Acoustic chord progression to a climax with horns, piano and typically Classic guitar-esque solos from Noel. Although I wouldn't say any lyrics written by Oasis are spectacular, this displays te better side of their songwriting ability....the lyrics actually make sense. The magic of this song is only really captured when listened at high volumes, it helps you notice how well it works

Died Pretty - Out Of The Unkown
I just love the soaring guitar in the beginning and the keyboards are nice. The vocal harmonies are perfect and its like a hazy druggy feel. The chorus is beatle-esque and a noisy solo follows that is just so cool.

The Dandy Warhols - Smoke It
Yeah, I know it's a bit lame, but if you ignore the annoying chorus, the lyrics and the general way the song is done is quite interesting. Yeah, an odd choice, but oh well.

The Blood Brothers - USA Nails
This band shows the diversity hardcore, or whatever "core" or any type of similar genre you want to classify them as, needs. Jordan's, either him or Johnny's, puma like screaming of "1-900-USA NAILS" over and over sticks in my head everytime. And during the choruses the chant of "oh oh oh oh" is said while the lyrics tell a story, all while intense guitar riffs and heavy bass lines come pounding out at you.

I'm gonna whore a song before this thread gets blown away.
Robert Wyatt - Sea Song
I recommended another song from the same album in a similar thread a while ago. But he deserves another thorough whoring. Robert Wyatt was the singer for Soft Machine and this is off his solo album, Rock Bottom. He's somewhere between refined pop and avant garde jazz at times. He's done Monkees covers and worked with Fred Frith. This particular album was produced by Nick Mason, I think. But this particular track is my favorite, really unique and utterly breathtaking if it hits you at the right moment. His uniquely fey falsetto kinda limps around beautifully as he sings basically nonsense lyrics over droning keyboards and stumbling lines. And then he does this little vocalization part that I really like. It's all very pretty and will likely appeal to fans of Brian Eno, Sigur Ros, and other musics that make you want to curl up under sheet of dirt like a mole.

I've never listened to any dEUS since Worst Case Scenario. I don't know why I haven't because I really like that album. But ever since Piano Island I've thought the Blood Brothers are one of the most underrated acts on the planet.

R.E.M. - "E-Bow the Letter"
Like the title says, the lead is played by an e-bow which creates this really eerie and haunting mood. Micheal Stripe then half talks, half sings a letter about not understanding fame and the fear and adreneline that comes with it. Patti Smiths sings backup vocals which adds the amazingness of this song. The video is very cool as well.

I know. That's why I hate Noel so much; if he actually tried when he wrote songs, we'd have a lot more songs comparable to this.

I own two of his albums. He's great. "Pale Green Eyes" is my favorite. Amazing song.

Radiohead-Pyramid Song
Brilliant song, its what got me into radiohead. It just has a very sad mood with minory chords that just work for me,and the piano for the first half and then the rest of the instruments come in, i never get tired of listening to it.
Gotta love that E-minor.

I dont really have one at the moment but one of my all time faves is Push-it by Tool. Its a 9 minute ride but starts off like youre in the woods being chased by clowns from a circus. Thats what the riff reminds me off. Like I got lost in a circus. And hear this announcers voice. THen the rest of the song is amazing. The two minute instrumental in the middle rocks and after that, who else could use a syncopated two step waltz beat in the middle of a rock/metal song? TOOL
