My kit is a Tama Swingstar in platinum grey as stated earlier, I dunno how good the Swingstar is but I like the colour.

I was lucky that I knew people who were looking for a drummer to jam with so I was basically jamming as soon as I got it.

Definately but I need the money first. I might buy some remos for the toms but I can't decide between the ambassadors or the pinstripes. As for the specs do correct me if I make any mistakes or what not I havn't been around drums for that long I've only really dreamed of having a kit.
18" x 22" Bass drum
9" x 12" Tom tom
10" x 13" Tom tom
16" x 16" Floor tom
14" Hi-hat cymbals (just the ones that come with the kit)
18" Crash cymbals (again the ones that come with the kit)
20" Ride cymbal (B8 by sabian :( )

Definitely choose the ambs instead of the pins. :thumb:

I'll take that advice, I also save a few dollars buying the ambassadors.

Nice little setup you got there. Yeah some of the drums could be moved in a little. Try that and see if it helps. Coated ambs will give you a nice sound, more versatile than pinstripes.

Are you sure it's a Swingstar? I thought Swingstar had fusion sizes and Rockstar had regular sizes...

It's a Swingstar, it comes in either fusion or rock. As I said I havn't been around drums long so I could be wrong but I paid for a swingstar and those sizes are copied out of the Tama catologue in the swingstar specs page.

I was gonna get one like that, I saw it in my local music shop for £399. A right bargain but when I went to buy it there was a little sticker on the bass saying SOLD. That sucked :(

how are the cymbals that come with the kit???

01-01-2006, 09:28 AM
The cymbals are meh, replacing them with a good bunch of Sabians or Zildjians would sound much better but so far they are getting me by as those who I jam with aren't to pro so no need for extreme equipment yet and Mr Lead Guitarist tells me that guitarists make the band not the dummers, he shall be replaced also.

No one makes the band on their own, everyone makes it, it would suck without a drummer and a guitarist. However, bass and vocals can easily be removed and not really effect it, im mainly talking about bass though, its not very important at all. Our bassist sings though so...

01-01-2006, 10:05 AM
Actually the bassist who has agreed to jam with us (friend of mine) may be worth having, your ordinary bass players can be not much of a necessity but I do believe that our bassist shall do well, he also chose bass instead of being forced into it because of every other role being taken up. I am tempted to replace our lead guitarist anyway as my friend the bass player can get someone in who can play satriani. Our rhythm guitarist also has possible talent I just think he's holding back. I could really ramble about the 'band' I'm in but every band has their problems.

Swingstar is the normal entry kit for TAMA but they also have the Stagestar which is the mini version of the swingstar with an 18" bass etc. is that what you were thinking of?

Heh..screw guitarrists! I'm working with just a bassist right now and we are getting SO much more done and having more fun than with the ego filled geetarrists we've played with before.
Good luck with your band. Do you have a PureVolume site for it?
Peace.

yeah, it sucks....the only place that you could get anything for the rockstar is on ebay....and even then you have to search. I got lucky and scored a bass drum, but the expansion toms that i have are both off color (one of them is even a superstar) im still actually looking for a 14" or 18" misty chrome tom, so if anyone finds one let me know :D

You should be proud of your equipement though! It's a lot more than many other drummers have... Some people here only own a practice pad... The rides aren't that bad either, I've been playing for four years and I've had mine for three... Will probably replace sometime this year though...
I might buy some remos for the toms

AWESOME!
I'm lucky enough to have a group of people to jam with who VERY much respect the drummer and the bassist. they're also all quite mature in age and emotion, the youngest being myself at 26 y/o (the oldest being in their 50s and 60s).
get rid of that guitarist as soon as you can, and don't feel sorry for doing so. egos like that have no place in a group of people interested in collaborating to create music, and he deserves every bit of what's coming.

That's so not true... I used to think that but the bass is an equally important instrument as the others in a band. You can really hear it in some songs but not so much in others although that does not make it unimportant...
It is there usually for the same purpose as the drums, to keep the beat... I have a good relationship with the bass player in our band and we feel the same way about electric guitarists...

True, I actually plan to replace the tama cymbals first. On the subject of the guitarist the only reason why he's playing is that he lives just up the street from me I've jammed with another guitarist before who had much more respect, for example we'd go to try doing a song and he'd ask me if I'm fine with playing it which is much better than what we get with the other. I've got a friend coming over on Saturday who might replace our lead guitarist.

Our guitarist is full of good quotes. Such as today:
"You know drums are just a more interesting version of metronomes"
"Guitar is a proper instrument not something you just hit with sticks"

I've never been to the drumshop since 2002 so I don't know what it's like there. I know whatever I need will be available for me at Kosmic.

Yeah, is damo the guy that runs the show at the drum department there, coz if it is, he's a champion guy, he is probably the most helpful and nicest salesperson i've met. anyway. Good luck with the kit, i like tama.

Goddamn guitarists always have their egos over-inflated. Most of them can't play worth a crap anyways so don't worry about it.
There are less drummers than guitarists around and it will be easier for you to move to another band for form another JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A DRUMMER! That is a great advantage.

I like your kit. Not too long ago mine was set up about the same as yours. I have a swingstar as well but I have changed the heads and i'm on my final stages of replacing the cymbals(i'm still using the hats). It really is a nice kit if you take the time to make it good. That sucks about the band thing, but I kind of know what its like. Well, cheers man.
