I need to know if ishould take out my old 5200, and put my new one in this slot, or keep the 5200 in, and put the new card in the other, free, open spot. Thanks for any help.

Yeah you have to replace your old card with the new one.

If the card/mobo supports SLI you could have 2 I think.

I dunno much about 5200s.

EDIT: Nevermind that. I forgot they have to be the same card.

thanks. i have another question as well. when it says to connect a 4-pin 5v/12v power plug from the system power supply if your card has an auxilary power connector (for specific cards only). What does this mean? this is the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121206. If someone could just explain this whole process to me, it would be helpful. thanks.

I think that is the standard power supply, you should have one of these spare.

right

you have taken out your card and put in the new one ?

if you havent put in that power lead your talking about, you need to do that

here is a pic of where it is on my GFX card, i expect its similar on yours

http://img425.imageshack.us/img425/3834/gfxcard2gj.png

the white and black bit in the bottom right

follow the cable from your CD/DVD rom to find a spare connector

its a white one, should have something like yellow/red/2 black wires in it

dont worry, it will only fit in one way

remember to ground yourself before touching inside your comp, so you dont get static electricity in there... just touch a radiator or something

start up your PC, right click in empty space on the desktop, go to properties, and select the settings tab at the top, click advanced, near the bottom right, and one of the tabs will say what graphic card your PC thinks is inside it

if it is correct, fine you can go

if it says something different to what you have, then you need drivers

try and get as far as you can and post when u get stuck lol

get a PCI fan, they're cheap and very simple to install, good for lowering the temps of the card and improve airflow in the case as well

is this alright with an agp card?

Yes. You simply slip the fan in the pci slot facing the vid card. Don't get anything that just blows into the case or just blows air around the case. That's no good. The little pci fans are great. Check out newegg. And they are inexpensive.

Would "Intel (R) Extreme Graphics 2 Driver" be the driver I uninstall?

After that I put in the new ATI card, and then start my computer back up and install what's on the disk?

that also sounds like you dont have a gfx card currently installed and you plug your moniter into the motherboad?

dont worry if you dont know

if you are worried about messing up, go

start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore > create restore point.

you put one below the power supply, and one behind the vents at the front of the PC

and then what happens is an airflow is created through the PC

where as one fan will just move hot air around as you say.

no it isn't, as that clearly isn't the "ATi" driver, that is the intel driver, you want the Video Adapter driver which will be the ATi driver "well, should be". You probably don't even need the new drivers. If your computer is running fine, then you don't need a new driver

it sounds like he is currently using onboard graphics, so yes he will want to get rid of the intel display adapter drivers

then when he installs his ATI card, he will isntall the ATI drivers

and updating drivers to the latest never does any harm, and in the exceptional case that it does it isnt very hard to roll back
