well at least the first 60 seconds.
Anyone care to tab this out Victor Wooten jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=_GbuasBh7r4&search=Victor%20Wooten) ?
Vic is so percussive with his bass playing. I don't understand how to make the notes sound percussive and still sound like notes (the part immediately after the tapping). My notes sound too clear. If I mute, it still doesn't sound like the vid. Also muting that quickly and switching back and forth between techniques is difficult beyond words :(

I'm no bassist, but I think it largely has to do with the actual bass guitar.
Also, it would be much more beneficial to you to sit down and figure it out yourself.

Maybe you're playing too hard, maybe your palm-muting isn't close enough to the bridge, maybe you don't vary the pressure of the palm mute enough.
Don't beat your self up about it, it's a Victor Wooten video for chrissake! To be able to play that sort of thing, you need to be really comfortable with percussive slapping, so you can just jam any old pattern that you think of. Once you can do that rhythmically, you'll be able to sit down and learn this much more easily. But you sound like a fairly new player, so don't expect to just 'get it' without time.
EDIT: Why exactly is this in the jazz forum and not bass forum?

well theres a number of reasons...
but look he's probably one of the most famous bassists ever - personally i dont think hes the best but hes ****ing good.... give it another 10 years providing you practice several hours everyday... and you'll have it :thumb: seriously i wouldn't worry that you cant play exactly like him - no ones gonna be comparing the two.
And move this to the bass forum - there'll be a few people who already have it in sheet music or tab form - and you'll get some decent help with technique etc.
This is what I would do, go to VictorWooten.com, and e-mail him personally and just ask. He may not respond but it sure is worth trying, right?

I have been. For several days. I watch and attempt to play this for hours every other day or so in an attempt to try and get it to sound right. I know its not all that hard but I can't figure it out....
(also, yah it should be in the bass forum. Sorry about that i wasnt thinking :()
if it helps it's based off the changes of dave matthews band song "#41". Should help you out a little.
