Personally I reckon he's one of the best around, Audioslave and Rage wouldnt be what they are if not for the awesome basslines.
What are your thoughts on YTimK?

Anyone else find all his nicknames (besides TimC) incredibly lame?
Ace player, great tone (unless it's older RATM stuff).

He is indeed a great bassist. Tim Commerford and Tom Morello compliment each other perfectly.

awesome player though

Yea, Billy Bob or whatever it was was a lame nickname. Great player though, Morello wouldn't have been able to do the same stuff if it weren't for him.

Awesome player. If it wasn't for him, I don't think I would of ever picked up a bass

My favourite bassline EVER is Bullet In The Head. Hats off to Mr Commerford.

I think he's an okay bassist, who makes up for his lack of originality by being an arrogant gear whore. Why he gets so many interviews with bass magazines never ceases to amaze and frustrate me. He has pretty good tone, but so do millions of other bassists.

Not a fan of RATM at all, at all!
But, he is a solid player, great tone too.

Indeed I feel he is slightly over-rated.
I didn't know he was arrogant though?
P.S. I harldy know anything about this guy.

He keeps his rigs and setups and mods and everything top secret

Wow, he must think he is more specialthan he really is or something.
Marcus Miller has a better tone.

He's solid. I'm not a big RATM fan, but songs like How I Could Just Kill a Man are just, solid.

I really think he was nothing special on RATM, I'm basing my opinion on his work with Audioslave.
RATM, IMO, was just bland and monotonous (sp?).

He's not bad, but he's the most overrated bassist ever.
I have never seen something from him that really amazes me. But yet everybody talks about him the same (or ever better) as Jack Bruce, Paul McCartney or John Paul Jones. Yet none of his songs has took me more than 5 minutes to learn.
His tone is good, but the guitar completely overlaps it.
I don't mind him. On some songs, I like his style. It's just his fan club I can't stand.

His playing is tasteful, so it doesen't matter how advanced it is. MHO

I like Tims more objective lines in rage, but the lines he has in Audioslave are very melodic and worthy of being held (IMO) as high as McCartney. Personally, i feel McCartney is a bland bassist. Just my Personal opinion, i'm sure i can find hundreds who disagree with me on this forum alone...

I kind of understand what you mean, but McCartney was pretty revolutionary when with the beatles. There sure is alot of better bassists today, but beatles wouldn't be the same without his playing. I just listened to "get back" and it's a really great line. I love Paul McCartney :thumb:

I can see how you would say that- but you have to admit, he really revolutionized the instrument.
As for Timmy C, hes the man!
I haven't heard a bassline of his that I didn't like (some audioslave ones are on the boring side, but still good)-he really is a solid player.

That'd be plain weird. He also played rics, they've got a pretty nice slap tone.

BORING
He is a solid player and the lines he comes up with suit both RATM and AS but their all so boring and just go on and on, i dont think ive ever seen or heard him play anything that impressed me.
Certainly overrated.

if you think everything he plays is boring, you either haven't heard enough RATM or your standards are set way too high.
