with the addition of my refinished 14x12 (i didnt spray the tension rods this time..just wanted to see how it looked..). i got a new peavy tom arm for it, one of their ball-clamp models, and i must say im impressed (and it was 19USD over ebay, 6USD less than a normal pearl tom arm), and it is much sturdier than i expected..enough for me to compare it to YESS!! (the tom arms). apparently they have some sort of intermediate line of hardware that also has a ballclamp positioned snare stand..im considering that too
on with da pics!
the 14x12 and the peavy tom arm (forgot the model name)

Yeah I did, thanks :smoke: i think it looks good considering i had no experience at all before the project. if u want to figure out my 'experience gaining' just watch the progress..from the 13x11 to the 12x9 to the 22x14 to the 10x8 and finally the 14x12. the 13 i didnt know how to fade at all, and on the 10x8 it was just plain bad wood :p

Woah man thats great work. My favorites the 12x9. Do I see an AAX in the backround? I would pay for that type of finish.
tight man. ha i had that same mr. sparkle sticker on my bass last year when i had my old kit.

yeah, its an 18" AAX Dark Crash..just sold it for 108 USD plus about 18 USD s/h. so total i lost about 20 USD on the deal (got it from massmusic, but it was before they dropped it to 127 and i had to pay state sales tax), but got more than i would have by trying to sell it back..
again, thanks for the finish compliments, iv had people tell me it looked real amateurish and unfinished, so its really refreshing :)

What the thing next to your hi-hat stacked?
aznriceball
12-29-2005, 02:49 AM
oh right, specs!
various drums (ehm..)
14x22
3.5x13
4x14
8x10
9x12
11x13
12x14
wuhans
10 trad splash
8/12 trad splash stack
18 trad china
zildjian
20 a custom projection ride
14 a custom fast crash
14 a custom project hats
sabian
17 aaxplosion
coated ambs/clear ambs on toms
coated emp on timbale (must change out..)
coated amb/clear genera reso (must change out, broke a ss amb on accident..)
emad/eq3 on bass
various stands, but i always buy heavy duty (the base is usually 1" or thicker and they are always double braced)
the stand holding the stack will be replaced
its not sure if i wanna get more peavy mounts and optimounts for all the toms. its a 'cheapo' kit, but if i get the catalina birch fusions sometime in 2006 i will probably change the mounting system to optimount anyway
iv changed the spurs on the bass myself. the tom mounting plate was designed for i think 3/4" and not the usual 7/8", so i cant use it unless i change it, but i got everything clamped to stands so it feels alright.
sorry for the boring explanations :p

Why don't you takeoff the tom mount from the bass drum?

Looks cool man. Im sure you can buy special plates of metal to put where the tom mount is so you can remove it

rustoleum gloss black, basically a slightly more expensive spray paint
yeah i know its gonna peel off in no time, but its not like i have anything to lose..
lets see if i can remember
i have an acclaim snare/acclaim bass. and a CB SP 12x9 tom, and an acclaim 13x11. the 14x12 seems to be the same wood as the others, really easy to stain (but there are inconsistent spots in the wood i couldnt stain properly for some reason). the 10x8 is a crappy tom i got for free after i ordered a 10x8 and got a 10x10 (they obviously lost money shipping another one, so they sent one without the 'pass' sticker inside). i would say the toms except for the 10x8 are phillippine mahogony/poplar, with the 10x8 i have no clue whatsoever..probably phillipphine mahogony that wasnt properly sealed/heated (it was BROWN)

i wonder if theres somewhere i can find a 16x13 rack tom for cheap.. i was over joyed to see 14x12 and 10x8 shells for 20 USD shipped.. there just isnt enough of an interval between the 13x11 and 14x12. i cant find anything on ebay and on massmusic the cheapest i can find is a swingstar for about 80 USD..
