1. i dont think '05 was a huge year for bassists, however, scott shriner has a new album out so that's always good. his bass playing is decent, but he, as a person, is what i like about him. (his personality)

2. that's really tough. i'm going to have to say 'the distance' i guess.

3. i'm not really sure if this is supposed to be what we hopefully will look forward to hearing or something we know is coming out and look forward to hearing. assuming it was the second one, the new flea stuff should be cool.

1 I can't really think of anyone, but Ryan is a good one. He did expand alot in the new CD, hes a great bassist.

2 Been listening to alot of older music lately and not much new, so not really sure...I'll think on it.

3 new Maiden!

I'd say Ryan of Mudvayne... with his new technique of tapping lower frets for a bitmore of a harsh sound w/o using pedal's.... plus his lines were just amazing...... OR Timmy C. and his calm new attitude with audioslave....

2) probably something from Mudvayne - Lost and Found

3)the new Tool and new Red Hot Chili Pepper albums should be quit an excitement...

1- Matt Rubano to Taking Back Sunday, probably...he's famous and stuff now, so he goes from a no-name Berklee grad studio session bassist to bassist in a famous pop-punk band...pretty neato.

2- Mainstream-wise, Feel Good Inc. by the Gorillaz...that line's smooth and everyone knows it.

3- Anything, really...

1. Juan Alderete. From Racer X shredder to jamming with The Mars Volta, he really broke out this year with his appearance on their new album Frances the Mute. It's even more indulgent and long-winded than their debut, but from a bass standpoint it's just magnificient. Juan is one of the only people who could top Flea's guest appearance on their first album, and he did so with force.

2. Unfortunately, I was more disappointed than ever with Mudvayne's continual slide from creativity with Lost and Found, but I saw them perform on the Conan O'Brien show and was more relieved to see Ryan Martinie still playing with his trademark exuberance. I especially liked the tapped artificial harmonics to create a "chorus" effect, as he described it.

Other than that, I might have to go with the insanely catchy "Feel Good Inc." groove by Gorillaz. Oh man, I'll never get it out of my head now

3. I'm looking forward to the new Tool album because I'm really hoping for the continued evolution of Justin Chancellor's role in the band. Also, Iron Maiden is supposed to come out with a new album in 2006 and it's always a treat to see what Steve Harris has done with the band he's been leading for more than twenty-five years.

I was very surprised to hear mentions of Interpol and Bloc Party in this thread...both are great bands with great bassists!! Gordon from Bloc Party comes up with some very cool dancy basslines and Carlos D is also great! (Listen to "The New", the bass intro is very cool and fun to play).

As for bassist of 2005, I'd give my nod to JFK of Death From Above 1979. Very talented player and a good live performer as well :) Can't wait to hear the new album!

Uhh... I was just baffled because I'm in Akron right now (I'm actually from Germany!), and we were also joking about the term Laffy Taffy the other day. So it seemed like a strange coincidence reading your profile.
