Yeah. I've learned not to really care about whether women are in music or not. My main type of music is metal, and women are so few and far between (the ones with real talent at least, not just a gimmick) that I've become extremely jaded. I'm going to honestly disagree with you 100 percent. Although it's not all about amazing drums and over-processed sound, I don't think image and sex should be what really matters... NOT AT ALL!!! That's actually what's wrong with music moreso. If anything, spirit and soul should be what it's about, something you can hear without accompanying pictures. When I posted that all I meant was that women (and I can back up with examples) often use theri looks. It takes away from the integrity of the music. I'm actually talking to a girl I know right now who drums haha.

These pictures make me sick. Until someone lets me see some audio/video of any of these girls drumming, I am under the assumption that they are just posing for sex appeal. Where is the MUSIC in that? They are giving women a bad image. What may come to mind when looking at these pictures includes "Women can't play drums, but atleast they are hot and they can pose infront of them and serve men by arousing them. So women can do sex, and that's all they are good for. Women can't be artists. Lord forbid. They were put here to serve men."

I would like to see more women like Cindy Blackman going out there, and showing the world that a woman can be a ****ing excellent drummer, and not just some sex object.

I am not inspired to play from the way someone looks. Image in todays world sells everything. You can be the worst player in the world and still get famous through image and selling tactics. I can think of a hundred better things to mix it with then that. Esspeccially considering the age of many begginer drummers.


While sure, adults can handle those adult issues. Many children and kids read drum mag's. They must be kept G rated. Our instrument, and our art can go many places.

No doubt, a playboy drum issue would be sweet.

But as far as general printed materials, I think that's not the type of image that need be presented to the musical, or just community as a whole.



Drumming would be truly be in the saddest of shape if it requires "sex appeal" to be the "shot in the arm."

Just because I take an interest in women, doesn't mean I am not outraged at the fact that people exploit the music industry.
For example 'Atomic Kitten'. Have they created anything? No. They don't even know what the are singing about.
They get by purely on looks, because i'm telling you, you should try having a conversation with them. It would be so funny, because they wouldn't understand you. They are all so simple. I'd say that guitar is much easier to acquire because of it's small size.
Drums are huge and that makes some people uneasy... somehow big instrument = big challenge.
Most teenagers I come across who "play" guitar don't really know anything about music, they just learned a few tabs.

Actually Andy, that's not really a fair comparison. You need to include the number of replies in conjunction with the number of views.

Wich actually comes out to these 2 ratios (at time i saw the numbers):

The view to reply ratios are very very close.


Now the second criteria in comparison is going to be the Topic line. Since the threadstarter is the same, that is nulled.

However your new video thread tells EXACTLY what the contents of the thread are, what the disscusion is going to be about and the subject matter at hand.

This thread however has a very vague topic, in fact the nature of the vagueness alone nearly forces a person to view thread to find out what exactly the thread is about.

These factors, combined with a number of others [such as the possibility people don't want to see your videos of a guy (very common) VS a male domminated instrument/viewing audience in conjunction with natural sexual attraction]
There are many other factors as well. Such as thread popoularity curve vs interest increasement.

However given these things, I would say the popularity of this thread is pretty much on par with what it should be. Furthermore, saying guys are interested in girls is stating the obvious.

Contray as well, much money, thought and so forth goes into marketing. If companies thought girls would sell drums better then guys. We'd be seeing girls in ad's. And we do on the rare occasion, I'm sure the companies have studied the results and as such - It seems that it's really not what's effective.

My comment wasn't meant to be sexist or gender-biased, if that's what you're getting at. I've got nothing against girls playing in their bra's or whatnot, but males being the perverted jerks we normally are, there's bound to be comments that guys probably wouldn't get in similar situations.
