Solar Groove by Dream Theater (John Myung)

Awesome song. Most of it can be played on a 4 string but for the harmonic parts you need a 6 string.

And also, what kind of Brice? Any pictures? I was thinking about getting a Brice in the next year or so just to see if I like/ can use a 6 stringer but I don't wanna put too much money into it just in case I don't like it and Brice looked like a good deal.

And, I hope you enjoy your 6 stringer.

Honestly, I like my Brice. They are a little top-heavy, but not too much to notice. They have a pretty nice tone and don't sound like a $300 bass at all. My only disappointment is with the finish. It's either very low grade quilted maple or is just painted to look like it. I can't tell.

The first bad thing I've heard about Brice... of course, shortly after I purchased one. lol.. I'm waiting for it in the mail. How's it play?

Edit: I got the Brice Prestige Z 6-Lefty Neck Thru... left handed. $450

I guess I should ask this to you, TS, and to FunkMetalBass... which models did you get?

I got the Brice Prestige Z Bass Neck Thru Red. Its really nice. Has a beatiful body and i can get great tones. Anything from a deep growl to a jazzy tone. Its good for slap and normal playing.

Thanks for the songs too. I never really listened to dream theater so ill check out those songs

Also, the long scale really helps for the B string. I tried 6 string Ibanez(I havenothing against this company, i love their guirtars) on my SWR amp and the B string just sounded way to floppy. I dont have that problem with this bass though

Tapping, man. Just get some classical music for piano and tap out both hands or even arrange any of your favorite songs (maybe even some jazz). Tapping's really the only thing I see useful in that many strings as you can fully utilize the range of the bass.

Yeah, but the finish doesn't matter so much as you can't really tell from more than 20 feet what it is supposed to be.

Also... I feel stupid asking this... but which knob does what on the bass. I can get sounds i want but i dont know what each knob is for. I know the one to the left is master volume. what do the rest do?

My last bass only had two knobs. Volume and Blend. So the world of four knobs is new to me

Usually either tone or volume control for each pickup.

I'm still not sure what mine do... I only really use two of the knobs. Master volume and bass (one way the bass is booming, the other way it's very flat). The other ones I leave set in the middle because either way, they don't make a big difference in sound. One is treble and I don't know what the other one is. Probably mid-range. Doesn't make a difference on my bass.. I just use my built-in EQ on the amp.

actually, most of primus's work is played on a 4string

I won't recommend any songs as I'll just end up giving almost all of the bands songs but I'd recomend learning some Dream Theater and Jelly Jam stuff, both bands have John Myung in them. One good 5 string song is "This Love" by Maroon 5, just one recommendation.

Hope you enjoy the world of 6 strings.

Les Rhinoplasity with his 69 j basses.

On every other album he plays his carls....

Although he uses his J bass for Wynonas.

I really liked his tone slapping on the jazz. His CT's sound like....rubber...

His tone cuts through the mix real nice and all but its just nasty...

He does sorta have a rubber sound to his CT's. But in a strange way it sound like his voice and fits perfectly. But Les has such a variety of tones from album to album its hard to pinpoint what it is.

I use my 6 string bass to play For Whom the Bell Tolls with my drummer on guitar and the guitarist on drums, and I play the guitar leads since the drummer can't. rock on
