Check out the recording setup in my garage..

I'm using:
a Fostex VF160ex digital multitracker
Shure SM58 on toms and snare
1 Audio-Technica Pro 25 Lo-Freq. Mic (for bass drum)
1 AKG C1000 S Condensor Mic

here are some recordings:
Soloish type thing (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3244113&q=hi)
Me playing along to Jeff Buckley's Grace (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3266574&q=hi)
(way out of my league but the drums are so damn fun!) Amazing song too
Weird Percussion Jam (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3252439&q=hi)
(contains shakers, tambs, cowbells, triangles, rainmaker, brushes!)
A Crow Left Of The Murder by Incubus (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3266633&q=hi)
I basically ruined this song on drums haha, but oh well, fun to play.
Playing along to Richard III by Supergrass (http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3238427&q=hi)
Midi version, created by me for my College Music Tech coursework

I know there are a lot of mistakes, and I can't keep time to save my life, but anyway.. it would be cool if you gave some of the stuff a listen, who knows you may like it!

Anyway thanks for looking, and if you're interested check out my soundclick as I have much more stuff on there: www.soundclick.com/licketysplit (http://www.soundclick.com/licketysplit)

I love the sound of your snare. specs? tuning?

RushHourSoul
12-27-2005, 08:20 PM
Thanks for commenting, its a black panther hammered steel, 14x5.5. Its about medium tension, but I raise the highs when I record, to give it a more cutting sound.

A decent spec list as well as lots of nice pics can be found in this here thread (http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=395341)

wow that's one sexy snare! I think I know which snare I'll get when it's time for an upgrade.. :)

I wonder how different the brass would sound. or the maple. but that sound of your snare in 'grace' is exactly what my ideal snare would sound like.

haha thanks. Definatly go for it you can, its a great snare. Got a great crack, ghost notes are clear, and rim shots are deadly

someone posted a sample of their wood BP a while ago, i'll see if I can dig it up. Not sure what brass would sound like, unfortunatly i've never heard a brass snare.

Ahh nice.. I like to think their modern-day Beatles.. they may not be as big, or as influencial, but they're excellent pop songwriters..

Great! heres a couple of the more rocking ones:
Mansize Rooster
Lose It
Lenny
Sun Hits The Sky (awesome keyboard solo!)
Going Out
Richard III

I'd also look for Late In The Day too, proves they can do great acousticy stuff. Their latest album sounds very beatlesy/pink floydy too.

Your snare is like teh sex , one of the best sounds i have ever heard :thumb:

Your playing is pretty good to , i liked your solo thingy , but your bass-drum triplet wich came into the song sometimes didn't seem to be in place imo

anyways very very nice!

Heh thanks ian, yeah I love that bass drum mic, definatly awesome.

And thanks Wizz, paid £250 for that snare so i'm glad it sounds good! I agree with the triplets, can never get them right. ah well, need to practice.
