Depending on other factors it should play it at medium settings. Perhaps low for some things.

Idiots. But knowing your processor speed and amount of system RAM will help, too.

ATI cards have known issues with CoD2, and the list of games ATI sucks with is endless.
Save yourself the headache and buy an nVidia card. It would seem people who own ATI cards need to tinker quite a bit with various third party drivers.
If you're not the most PC savvy, buy nVidia.
Never mind the fact that CoD2's website clearly and in great detail lists what devices are supported, so you know which card to buy.
Helpless with a computer for the lose eh?

This is a generous post and great advice. Go to newegg and look at the 6600 (nvidia) for less then what you are paying for that Ati thing...

Processor is fine. With that amount of RAM you will get some freezes and pauses during gameplay, though. How bad or frequently, I couldn't tell you. Get 512 more mb's minimum if you can. newegg can do you up with that and an nvidia 6600 for just over $100.

try and find a used 9500 on eBay, the older models can be unlocked to 9700 speeds

Here's the cheapest AGP they have. I was wrong about the price because the holiday sale is over :-\. Sorry about that. The cheapest new one they have is $118. And if you are are going to pay that you may as well pay a little more and get a GT model. But ebay is a place you can get them cheaper. So if money is an issue, remember that option:

That will play it just as well as the one you were looking at from Best Buy. And it's 256 mb. nvidia, too.

I don't know much about Ati, but that looks like your best bet so far. Good price, too. I didn't find anything on newegg that can match it at that price (I don't think). I'm sure someone familiar with Ati can tell you more.

Hate to ask this question in someone else's thread, but I didn't see the point in making a new one for basically the same question. Pretty much any of these video cards are fine with me since I want to play CoD2 too, so I'll skip that. What I need is a motherboard since HP screwed me over by not giving me an AGP or PCI-2 slot. If I get a new motherboard, is there anything else that I'd need to replace along with that? Any recommendations would be good too since I have no idea what to be looking for.

If you are going to spend that much an nvidia 6600GT from newegg is a better card at around the same price. It doesn't matter that this card has 256mb of memory. A GT with 128mb is still better.

Yes, in your price range see if you can get a 6600GT. Best card going for those on a budget. I have one myself and it's a good card. For the above poster, that is a fine card, but very expensive for some wallets. If we could all choose the obvious, we would.

You know, not everyone can afford one of those. And not everyone has a motherboard that's compatible. Do you honestly think he'd be looking into these other cards if he could afford a 7800?
I'd say the 6600 is your best choice. Add at least 512MB RAM if you can though, that'll help alot.

Go ahead and make a thread. It's alright, it's just the Media Center. You'll likely get the help you need. That's what it's here for.

^^ I understand. Sorry I can't be of any help, but I thnik I remember you from before. You have a good set up, but lacking mobo. Sucks. I think maybe you will need a new power supply and to make sure the mobo is compatible with your RAM and what not, but anything else, I don't know? Perhaps some different cooling options? We'll try to keep this bumped to see if any real advice comes along. Is your processor hyper-threaded? I believe it is, if I recall correctly.

meh .... what's a few extra hundred dollars. (two weeks more of work ... milk the clock a little while you're at it)
...and maybe I'm wrong here, but if a 6600 is compatible with his mobo, won't a 7800 GTX be compatible as well?

Depends, if it's a PCIE version, but it'll bottleneck like crazy.
bottleneck?
(I have a PCI express x16 (256mb))

If your processor/ram/etc is too slow for the videocard you'll lose a lot of proformance.

oh yeah .... I kinda figured that's what you meant.
The 6600 is good for a low budget, low end computer.

Not everyone can just throw out a couple hundred. And as REINER said, not everyone has a PCIE compatible motherboard. I don't, but my 6800GT AGP card is great. I still think the 6600 is the best option here, it should be compatible, and there's very little risk of bottlenecking. Very affordable too.

Not everyone has a job that pays enough for that. Or any job, for that matter. You act like it's no trouble whatsoever for him to go out and buy the most expensive card on the market. Again, I highly doubt he'd be asking these questions if he could afford that card.
my bad ... I'm used to working hard to get the things I want in life. If it weren't for that ambition, I'd have nothing.

I have basically the same setup as you, but I have an ATI X700 PCIE card, and this is how I play CoD2;
