Out of interest, how many poeple have drum teachers.
I know drummers who don't have teachers and some of them are good on drums, some are not so good. But then some drummers with teachers aren't particularly good either.
There are plenty of advantages to having a teacher, but how important you think it is? I mean if you want to learn something there are plenty of books, and lessons on the internet, but if you don't have a teacher I guess maybe you don't know what you should be learning.
I do not have a teacher. Having a teacher is very important though. The reason why i dont get one is because i know many many drummers that have been playing for a long time. Like my uncle....hes been playing since he was 3, i have sessions with people I know and we exchange ideas. Its best though for beginning drummers to start out the right way...with an instructor.

I have a teacher. He's amazing and its not from a company its just him so its really prive lessons and I'm his only student so he plans out the lessons good, he teaches me everything from reading to different styles of african music(maningo and the clave pattern. I already knew he just showed me two other patterns along with it he didn't write the names down one is x x xx xx xx x x and the other is x x xx xx xx xx and thats played over the clave). He also is helping me out with technique he has me doing singles with my hands backwards because his views on the drumset is that you need to be able to play any possible way because the angles of the drums might be hard to reach or whatever so you should be over prepared. Besides that hes a down to earth guy, doesn't show off, and he doesn't over charge he goes $50 a lesson not by time. He also grooves like a beast.
Nope, haven't got a teacher. Basicly cause I'm an ***. :p

yeah I have one, I just got a new one. Both my teachers before this have been very beneficial.

I fully support getting a teacher, cause unless you start out early like Buddy Rich, then you really aren't gonna know how to progress.

^^ I don't know about that man. Jose Pasallias started out late and he's never had lessons. I'd say he's pretty damn good for that.

I have a teacher. He not only introduces me to new concepts of drumming every time i go to him, but he also got me into rock. Yes, rock. Before my first drum lesson, i was a pop-"Music"-head. Now i'm a anything-but-pop-"music"-head.
