View Full Version : Sabian vs Wuhan

I need a new ride, and I have a very low budget. What would be better? a Wuhan Trad. ride or a Sabian B8 ride? Why?
Also any other suggestions, my budget: $106.
My current plans are to buy a Sabian B8 Ride (or Wuhan Trad ride) - $77 then order a Wuhan Splash -$20. Then buy my guitar stompbox.

I can't say anything about the Wuhan, but Sabian B8's suck ***. So I'm assuming the Wuhan is at least slightly more decent.
If you are on a budget and need the cheap stuff, I'd suggest like PLanet Z's. Considering the price they sound ok.

I've researched (and heard a little) about these cymbals, and they don't seem very good, any details about them that would sway my vote?

You should probably save up some more money. $200 at Massmusic will get you a good ride from a professional line of cymbals. B8 and Z's are both beginner cymbals and sound like crap.

Well, I'm using an 18" Paiste pst3 crash/ride. And it sounds terrible, I want to get a 20" ride so it can at least be heard.

Seriously, save 100 more and get a pro cymbal.

Yeah but a B8 ride or a Z ride may sound worse. I don't know anything about Wuhans so I can't say about that trad ride. $106 is not enough for a good ride. Just stay with the paiste crash/ride for now. Even if you go out and buy a cheap b8 ride thats money wasted when you want to upgrade to an AAX or an A custom later on.

I say save a hundred, but if you insist on buying a ride now check out used cymbals maybe. Don't settle for a B8!

www.cymbalsonly.com they have a used HHX raw bell ride for $200 go there and put it on reserve(its under used cymbals) get like 100 more dollars and your set for life. They also have a wide array of instanbul's and bosphorus cymbals(I feel like I'm the spokesmen awsome!)
up your budget to $200 and order from massmusic. youll thank me later.

Go put the HH raw bell dry ride on reserve, go listen first they have audio, but I'm sure that you'll like it
Well...if you're short on cash you could go for wome wuhans. But you really have to pick them really carefully cause some cymbals are beauties and others are crap.

I have no clue... I still didn't order anything from there. I guess you can call the people they have a number on the page and tell them that you have 100 and your saving up for it and tell them to put it on hold for you, I saw other cymbals on hold so you can do it too.

Saving up is the best thing to do when it comes to cymbals, you end up saving more money in the long run and I can tell you it's well worth it.

I find it strange you rip on B8's then go on to applaud Planet Z's in the same sentence.
Wuhan are cheap because the metal is not as durable and they are made in countries where the labour cost is significantly lower. There is nothing wrong with Sabian B8's if you are buying at that pricepoint. They offer a decent sound, decent durability, and a wide range.

^ maybe he meant that if u were gonna go cheap, go rock bottom cheap (which i think planet Zs are)
although..i think u can go lower. u can always buy pearl/camber/tama/yamaha/adam cymbals. egh

No, I'm not saying that they're horrible, I'm just saying you'd have to be smoking some sort of laced crackrocks to even consider wasting as much as a penny on those big metal circles(please don't call them cymbals, thats all drummers have left)

I have the B* 20" ride and Ithink it sounds ok, i've heard most of the other cheaper rides and this one is best IMHO but i would say save up for pro cymbals, its easier that way

www.cymbalsonly.com they have a used HHX raw bell ride for $200
Rip off.
Used cymbals should automatically be half the price of new ones, let alone not being able to inspect or hear it first.
The Wuhans are awesome cymbals for the price, however you don't want to be bashing on them too hard. If you're not a smasher, everything should be cool.
Jim's trad ride sound amazing for the price, I'd personally take the Wuhan's myself.

i got a B8 pro that came with my old set like... a long time ago... its good enough for just jamming, but i would save and buy something that youll actually like, cuz if you waste 100 on a cheap cymbal, then your gonna have to save even longer for a better one....
im gonna purchase an AA metal X myself, cuz i like the HUGE bell, and how it sounds....... actually... im getting a whole set of AA metal X (20"ride, 19"crash, 16"crash, 10"splash, and 14" hats), cuz they are great
SABIAN= PURE GREAT ASSNESS

Umm... No, I don't know where your from but over here if you can find something for that cheap in that good condition you should be happy. As for not being able to hear it thats the whole reason I like that site, you get the hear the accuall cymbal not a stock recording of it.

$200 for a USED ride is NOT cheap.
Perhaps in Australia or some other country where cymbal prices tend to be very high.
I could walk into any GuitarCenter and nab that ride new for around $240

its hard for sellers to drop it to half sometimes. i had my aax dark crash for a mere 2 months and when i tried to take it back to massmusic they offered half so i sold it on ebay for about 30USD less than i payed for it. better offer imo
gabbahey there we go

for the chinas wuhan is the way to go for a budget... im not sure about the ride
sabians are generally better, or so far as ive heard, but more money
SAVE UP MORE itll be so much easier

1. theres nothing wrong with a well looked after used cymbal, some people prefer played in cymbals ie. jim
2. dont ever buy intermediate/beginner just because your feeling impulsive now, you'll regret it.
3. wuhan are not intermediate, just because they're not one of the top-3 doesn't mean they're arse. so i'd suggest try some wuhans and if you like them, buy those particular cymbals [hand-hammered, individual]

and I got it off Ebay..... Wuhan is your best bet if you are really eager to get another cymbal and dont have much money...

ive only used the s series, and let me tell ya, these cymbals are negative good...
and to that person who said 200 is too muich for a used ride... it depends on what type of ride it is, and if you like it enough...

Yes, I think in the long run B8s might not 'be the answer.
I own a B8 ride, and I find nothing wrong with it.
I don't understand why everyone is bashing it. umm. Probably because it is the cheapest series offered by Sabian it is bashful.
I haven't regret thus far.
But yes, I would go for something better IF you truly know what you really want.

Out of the two.. the wuhan
But most likely I 100% of people in there right mind would save more and get a great ride that will last
Wuhan trad are made from b20 bronze. same as some 200$+ sabian and zildjian cymbals. I just bought a wuhan trad ride, its great, I also have a wuhan 12" china. If they were the same price as a Zildjian K cust people would probably say they were better with out actually hearing them... not sure if that made sence, but do NOT get the B8 ride get the wuhan.
