Browsing through drumtips.com.. anyone try any of these? If so, how was it?
191. Soloing idea: An old trick is to hook up a long plastic tube to the vent hole of your floor tom and blow air through it while you're playing the drum. This creates a really cool sound effect and the crowds love it!
160. Cool bass drum effect: Mount a tambourine to a stand and pack it with cloth. Tape a bass drum mic to the bottom of it. Very cool sound.
and some of the user submitted ones worry me for example:
Annointed playing:- know God and fearing God and obeying His commandments will make you. - probaba

The floor tom idea is the mani tom, it creates a timpani effect I don't really like it because its not practical.

You know the little holes on the side of your floor tom? You put a thin plastic tube in it(most drums it fits good) then you blow air through it to raise the pitch, then you can either put your tounge on the other end of the tube and leave it high or let the air out to give it and effect that it lowers the pitch, really cool but your never going to use it unless your covering the rain song by zeppelin
yes i know the little holes. but i really wouldnt have a tube running from my mouth to my floor tom at all while playing. thats just..odd.

Doesn't TTSBN do that with his floor tom? I could swear I saw someone in the gear forum with something like that...

Sounds interesting, but probably looks very gay.

I agree, I think that would look gay.

True.
I don't really know that the crowds would love it, depends on the crowd I guess. But if you're playing a drum solo to the average crowd, I doubt they're gunna go crazy about you changing the pitch of your floor tom slightly. Especially when they're distracted by some moronic drummer looking like a loser with a tube in this mouth.

you silly homophobiaphobic mofos!
...but yeah...if you're only purpose of doing so is to please the crowd.....I doubt it's gonna work much cause most people would have the same "wtf?" reaction heh.. I've never tried it (or heard of it!), but I bet you can do some really creative things if you master the technique of sucking.... er, I mean blowing.. crap, nevermind....

a better technique is to not fall back on tricks and to play well. :thumb:

Crazy enough that it probably wouldn't work! Considering most nondrummers don't know **** about drumming and all...

That's true... A lot of non-drummers are easily impressed...
In music class one of the other three drummers put a Skittle on the snare head and then hit a flam, shooting the Skittle into the air and catching it in his mouth... EVERYBODY was impressed  :p But when I manage to beat them all at a solo... jokes
