My girlfriend got me "F.E.A.R" for christmas and I'm happy. I get home and try to play it and was dissapointed. I usually can play games fine if I put them on medium or low settings but not fear. It looks great but when the action starts it freezes and then I'm dead because it skips around so much they kill me :(. I don't really know how video cards work so I don't know if it's my card or not enough ram. I'm running a 3000 AMD Athalon 2.0 Ghz prosessor with 512 DDR ram. My video card is a Radeon 9200 128mb card. I wanna play this game (it's un refundable now that I opened it) but I don't want to spring for a new card just yet. I know, I should of listened to all you guys boasting about the 3000gt.

Anyways, when I hit the slow spots it doesnt affect the visual quality, which leads me to believe it might be due to ram. I can get another 512 stick for under a hundred making a total of 1g. But then again I could be wrong because I don't know how cards work.

also, since I don't like to make a million threads, can someone recomend me a mother board? I don't know how they work either or what to look for. All I really want is something that will accomodate my currant chip, has a PCI express slot and has the capablitys for recording. I don't know much about recording via computer. All I do is Guitar>Tonelab>fostex8 track>flash media card>computer>Adobe Audition. I want to get into midi so I wanna plan for the future. Any insight would be very much appreciated :).

Try turning down the resolution.

That is the EXACT problem I had. My comp runs DOOM3 and Halflife2 perfectly, but for some reason FEAR eats my comp.

Yessir. Doom 3 works fine. I havnt tried half life on it yet. My girlfriend was going to buy me that one initially but I guessed it so she returned it and got fear instead. I was happy because I wanted fear more but now ... I'm not so sure :(.

Both your GPU (graphics card) and RAM are holding you back, games like F.E.A.R will be wanting 1Gb of RAM at least to run decently, you'll want to look at a new GPU too.

Your machine sounds a bit outdated to be honest (not great for running processor intensive games like F.E.A.R at least).

You could try turning down the resolution, but I think that only makes it not choppy in video. but t also might not work with a 128mb video card. I know like Splinter Cell and newer Rainbow Six games need 256mb video cards to not lag and skip. Your RAM is fine, I don't think you'd need another stick.
Egad! Girls play video games!?

Yeah I suppose so, but it's really not that bad for other things. I didnt start getting into computer games untill recently. I bought the computer for 500 last year and the Graphics card for 35b about 2 months ago. I really thought I could run it medium resolution with no effects on like I do other games but I guess fear is too high tech :(. When I turn everything to low it look like ****. It seriously looks all grainy like the old doom games.

So no one has a clue on the mother board situation?

There's an all-girl CS clan. I was gonna join as a joke, but then I was like, "i bet they're all virgins"

A clan of virgins eh... :rubs chin:

By 'chin' you mean 'crotch' right?
