Well I don't know about perfect, but playing for 5 years or so makes it fairly easy. Just keep practicing man is all you can do.

Also singles at different dynamic levels, that's important. Practice slower and build, just like in everything else.

When doing singles at very fast speeds you can use fingers. Get a met. put it on a fair starting tempo(not sure of your level). Get a clock. Do 16ths for 1 minute. Turn the met up and reapeat this. After awhile you will see your speed is higher. Isolate smaller muscle groups. Doing 8 on a finger will also help.
If you do 8 on a finger make sure your transition(switch) between fingers is not noticeable. sound wise not visually. Make sure you stay relaxed and breathe.

Its more important to have singles that groove perfectly with what your playing along with

Im really good at singles and I suck at doubles. I got a metrenome for xmas so ill get better at both soon. Jimi Hendrix used to use a met. and would start slow. He wouldnt increase the tempo until he could play at that speed perfectly. Give it a go, I keep meaning to try but I always forget

I'm not saying it's not true, it's just weird...

My singles are complete and total crap, I can't even play as fast as red barchetta cleanly relaxed, my left hand always drags so I tense it up, I have really good doubles and diddles though I neglected my singles for such a long time that I can barely do them anymore, my fills are 90% flams and diddles.

Just remember that a roll that is clean, in time, and musical is much more valuable than a sloppy roll played as fast as you can.

Like everyone else said, use a metronome, practice at different dynamic levels, and also importantly - count out loud!

Know one has perfict singles, doubles or anything. There is always room for improvement.

I've been working on my singles, they aren't as good as my doubles are and don't think they'll ever be but singles are obviously much harder to sustain at a high tempo like 220 as opposed to doubles which kinda go on auto pilot. Virgil has some pretty serious singles too.http://virgildonati.com/media_videos.php 5th video down, montreal drumfest

I agree with this. I have single faster and smoother than most people I know, and yet I am a long way from believing Im even half good at them!
