I didn't take pics of it yet but I found a link of the same kit.http://www.drumcentral.com/images_pearl_exr/exr825h_433.jpg

Can you rate it from 1-10 for me, just to see if it's realllllllllllllllyyyyyyyy good? My parents got it for $900.

I've never been a fan of that mounting system of pearls (optimount, i think its called?). But besides that, it doesn't look bad. I personally wouldn't have shelled out $900 for an ELX, but then again, I buy all my gear used.

Why is that mounting system crappy?

Goes straight into the drum, which also means there is a large hole in the drum lol WEll most do, that one is a remblence of it, but it doesnt go into the drum ,Im still not a fan of that, cause its hard to get the drums where you want, Ball joints are what I like/have lol

and also IMO i hate the look of them 2 tom arm holders side by side. I prefer like mapex tom mounting system

It's not crappy, I just don't like the tom arms it uses. Makes it very difficult to get the drums close together, and theyre just not as easy to adjust as most other intermediate/pro kit's mounting systems.

And on another note, it only matters how you think your kit looks and sounds that matters. Unless, of course, you actually want to perform for an audience, in which case your audience's opinion is more relevant than your own. For example, you might love the way your Solars sound, that's great for you practicing in your basement, playing for yourself, but I don't want to go to a show and hear the drummer rocking out on their beloved solars. IMO, your opinion does matter, but not as much as the opinion of your audience, if you plan on a paid performance

They are a little bit crappy, if you think about the amount of tension that is put in one place on the hoop. In light of the Optimount system, I.S.S. is complete crap. Optimount is awesome.

Threadstarter: You went from a PDP to and Export?

Hmmm...

Not really an upgrade...

They don't put T3's straight through the shells anymore. They all use I.S.S's.

If your parents dished out 900 you coulda just asked them to hold onto the money a little bit longer and got something else. Especially if you like Tama ( The starclassics deal comes to mind).

I have an export. Its not terrible. I actually was thinking about the Mapex mounting system today and don't like the look of it. Then i thought I really like mounting system. I have my toms right next to each other at very nice angle. :thumb:

You don't need to play one to know that you can get a birch set for the same price if not lower. And everybody knows Birch > Poplar.

I have a pearl forum, and I will not be buying pearl for a while. While its a decent set, it's also a pain in the ***. The Toms mounts make me want to scream (and I imagine that the I.S.S. Mounts would be any better, same setup except for free-floating).

And I was not impressed with the shell quality. When I took my wrap off my set to refinish it, there was a fair amount of damage to the shells that in no way could have been caused by me. it was pretty ridiculous.

And frankly, I don't see any reason why pearl's lower lines should be as popular as they are, and as well-reputed. I understand why the are, but I dont think they should be.
