Now that the next gen consoles hitting the market, I see less and less good PC games coming out. Will PS3 be death knell for PC gaming?

What is your opinion?

I want more good games to come out. I'm thinking of making a gaming PC soon.:(

PC gaming is not dying and will always be superior to console gaming in some respects. DX10 is just around the corner and processors, PCI-e, and RAM speeds are always increasing. The new generation of nvidia graphics cards are amazing. As well as those of Ati. And a lot of great games are in development right now, including the next Far Cry. Which is said to be the first DX10 game that will be released.

Of course the consoles are also very good. But they are limited by comparison. And I can't really compare PC to console, anyway. Two way different platforms. So I won't.

But no, PC gaming is not dying. I would say it's heathier then ever, as a matter of fact. The consoles will always eclipse it in terms of number of games produced and popularity and hype. But PC gaming is a more involved way of gaming. Especially for FPS games. Which are really the only kind I play. So for me PC gaming is alive and well.

But the problem is that how many people wish to spend $+2000 for a gaming PC that can run those games in their full potential instead of $500 or less for a console.

My computer is something like..450 dollars, with maybe a 200 dollar video card and I haven't run into a game I can't play that's on the market atm.
You can get a decent gaming PC for a lot less than 2 grand.

You don't need 2000+ to build your self a decent gaming computer...

And as said by JohnXDoe, computer gaming will never die and will always be superior to consoles in MMORPG and FPS games for online play. These games will always be able to be pushing the limits for graphics as the standards change for computer hardware much faster then it does for consoles as well.

The consoles may have good graphics now and all, but I personally believe they will never surpass the ability of a desk top computer.

PC gaming will be around for a long time yet, I can assure you.

As has been mentioned before, there are quite a few PC's out there that are already more powerfull than the next gen consoles that are getting released, not to mention the fact that PC's are a hell of a lot easier to upgrade than consoles, instead of buying an entire new console.

PC's can do everything a console does and more, with a lot more options for optimization and changing various settings etc.

PC gaming will be here for a long time. There are so many good games that are in development at the moment that will be released in 2006. TES IV: Oblivion, Spore, UT 2007, Stalker, Supreme Commander (sequel to Total Annihilation), Warhammer: Mark of Chaos, The Godfather, Dark Messiah od Might & Magic and Dreamfall are all being released next year. PC gaming isn't dying, it's just beginning to get even better with the next wave of releases.

I built my PC and it didn't break the bank and I can play Call of Duty 2 on high resolution with most seetigns on full , so it looks better than the 360, and costs only a fraction more than next gen consoles if you include the monitor.

PC's are much better for FPS. However, many people can't keep up with the constantly-updating PC market. When you buy an XBox, you know it won't get any better for 4 years. New parts for computers come out all the time, and if you're like me you can't afford to keep up.

The only thing going against PC gaming is that you have to upgrade every few years or you won't be able to play the new games.

Bit like console gaming really, except that you have to by a new machine every few years. Which probably comes to about the same price.

This happens every console generation. Yeah, the PS3 and Xbox360 and all that crap seems impressive, and don't get me wrong, it is. The fact is simple, though, you can upgrade PCs as technology progresses. PC Gaming will never die out, because it's just not the same playing FPS and MMO (two of the most highly profitable genres in gaming) on a console.

What's MMO again?

FPS I can understand because aiming with the mouse is invaluable.

Massively Multiplayer Online (role-playing) game. Basically it's one of those intensely addictive games, usually one with a monthly fee, such as WoW, that build on compulsive gaming.

I actually consider this an advantage. While gaming on a console means for the most part being stuck with the hardware you have, gaming on a PC means a lot of flexabilty and mix and matching. Plus every so often you get to ugrade your computer, which you also use for other things. Pretty good deal all around, if you ask me.

Exactly. This is part of why PC gaming doesn't die out. Technology advances quicker than the console cycle progresses.

+ You can mess up games and say hack on CS for PC. Playing CS:S On Xbox is like playing CS, but you cant hack....can you? Well another thing is that if you are used to a keyboard, you wont have to learn where the X button on this new pad is now, will you? Of course not. You can play old PC games on any computer, well almost any. You dont have to trash all your favourite clsssic games once the old console is broken. Exept for now that they thought of that, but PC still digs deeper into the past.....I love playing old Sonic The Hedgehog PC games :p

The Xbox CS is not CSS, but more or less a variant on CZ, but I totally agree with everything you said. I love playing an old game, in fact, I'm just playing through Deus Ex again.

But I just bought Quake IV and Call Of Duty 2 today, so I'm throwing my own theory down the drain :upset: and I bought the Razer Copperhead mouse too :) but still money-- :upset:

mmmmmm the Shield.

New season jan 16!

Anyway.

PCs have homebrew. While new xbox games have to have amazing graphics, you can still play games like Cave Story on your computer.

Also, the computer can emulate nearly every console except the new ones, and you can get an adaptor for whichever controller you prefer or get a usb one.

I played through castlevania sotn twice this past semester.

Yeah, there aren't nearly as many big games being developed exclusivly for the PC anymore. But we just got FEAR and Quake 4 (have it but it isn't installed) and Civ 4. We'll still get the ports, plus a lot of high quality games from manufacturers who don't like consols.

Personally I prefer all first person shooters, role playing games (ie. stuff like CIV, Warcraft and etc.), and games that have awesome internet gameplay on PC.

For other stuff especially sport games (hockey, racing and etc.) I perfer on consoles.

I'll always be in the market for PC games.

How do you say so?

It's a tournament where lots of gamers gather together...compete in gaming, and pc developers set up stations to demo new games to players. And Hardware developers show off new products

Tons of people attend every year. How does that have no effect in pc gaming??

Bf2 + Cod2 > Any FPS on any console

If you have the $$$, you can always get better graphics and games than on consoles. By the time PS3 comes out, Geforce and ATI will release new graphics cards. ATI is already doing it. So really, consoles are behind PCs if you look at it that way. New consoles come out every 3-5 years while new CPUs, graphics cards, etc.. come out few times a year.

So yea, for me PC > consoles.

PC games dying?
You have like no reason to say that.
Go out and buy a games magazine and check the upcoming games for next year.

Next-gen consoles will be good, but certain gametypes will always be BETTER on computers. (Rts & shooters). And computers are still better than consoles on every level, which is logical because you pay 2x(or3x) more for them.
