Hey for christmas I got coated ambassadors all round, and it sounds heavenly compared to my old mismatched heads!

Everything sounds fine, and in nice tune except from the snare, I had a mesh head on before so noise was never a problem, but now with a new head its deafening!! Im not a hard hitter but 1 small roll on the snare and my ear's hurt! even when I have noise reducing headphones on tis still really loud.

Ive tried all types of tuning, the only ones that sound good are when its quite tight and i get a nice crack, but any tuning and its still extremely loud!! Anyone got any ways i can make it quiter with theese heads on?

Thanks, I dont wanna deffen my family lol.

Soundproof your room and buy gun range ear muffs to protect your hearing.I used to do that and it worked fine.

Yes there is too loud! I swear a few years down the line im going to deafen my family! lol. I have huge ear muffs so im not the problem, just everyone else. I want to quiten it because I have neighbours if its this loud I wont be able to keep it :(

I just tryed a hard hitting roll, and rim clicks, Jesus titty ****ing christ, never heard anything so loud, and thats with the ear muffs on!

Drums make loud sounds. That just how it is.

If you have proper ear protection and it's still too loud for you then your just a wuss.

heh.. I remember when I got my first non-stock head. 'twas also a coated amb for the snare, and I couldn't get over how outrageously LOUD it was. I guess I got used to it over time, because it stopped seeming so loud after a while. the one thing I didn't like, though, was how loud the crack was in particular. the pdp stock head had quite a bit less crack, and I lovvved the slightly ringy tone that it gave off. :)

When I got a new head my drums chilled out more. I got pinstripes so that deadened the sound of my toms. Sounded nice though I must admit.

The snare...I put an amb on and it sounded pretty much the same as before becuase the strainer didn't work properly. So I never noticed a difference.

Put a thin teatowel on top of it.

Silencer pads!

Or home made silencing pads. Like on an old vinyl player, where the record sits, there should be a rubber mat that you quite easily take of the turntable and place on your drum.

How much do you actually want to silence it, loads or just decrease the initial cuttingness of it?

tilt your snare away from you so your head [and ears] aren't directly above where the sounds going.. drums are accoustic, think about it.
