View Full Version : Returning a new cymbal :(

This christmas, a lesson was learnt.
I really loved the sound of the Paiste Signature 16" Mellow Crash, and wanted it for christmas. CHristmas day, I played it on my kit, alas! It sounds amazing, but, exactly like my Zildjian 16" A Custom! Alas again!
As the Paiste would be my second crash, I really think having spent over £100 on a cymbal, I should look into a better deal. So I'm going to returning it, for something along the lines of a K or a Rude.
Now, the cymbal I'm trading in is pretty much mint condition, I mean, I've played it, but only for a day, and I'm a caring, loving cymbal owner. Either way, it's better condition than they have in store shelves, yeah?
So I'm wondering, what kinda deals do stores do on trade ins? I live in Chesterfield, and my two local shops are Drumstop and Real Time Music, both very friendly and competetive places (and very good). I didn't get the cymbal from either of these, because they couldn't get it, but I'm wonderingif they'd take it for cash or credit at the store, and if so, how much.
They both said the cymbal would be around £180, but it's only with a good deal I got my Paiste for less.
Could I expect to nearly be able to do a straight trade for this Paiste Signature for a Rude, or should I be rpepared to put a bit of cash in aswell?

You could try to sell it on ebay as "Like New" and maybe you will recover what you paid for it.

I'd imagine that you'd have to put a little bit of money in, though if you've only played it once it shouldnt be much. also maybe try a differnent sized cymbal, if its a secondary one you want one that sounds more noticably different, so maybe a 17" or an 18". i dunno im not tht knowledgably on trade ins (or cymbals for that matter)

Cant you just return it to the store you/your parents bought it at?

It's all the way in Liverpool, it's adcdrums. We went there when visiting friends in Liverpool, and we wont be able to make another trip for a month or two, I figure I'd better trade it in a little sooner than that, whilst it's perfectly new. Thanks for the sizes tip ToMsk, I've been thinking about that.

E-mail ADC drums and explain the situation. They're a good shop and should take it back. Check out their website for return details. It might not be a good idea to tell them you played it though! Say it's an unwanted Christmas present or something.

I say just keep it, its a good cymbal, why get rid of it.

something along the lines of a K or a Rude.

Kinda opposite sides of the spectrum...

He said because it sounds the same as his other crash.

If you like the cymbal, then just get it in a bigger size.

heh, noted, I meant somethign along the lines of a K, or something along the lines of a Rude. One of the two :P
About getting the same cymbal in a different size, I still think it'll be a bit too similar. As I'll then only have two (good) crash cymbals, I'd rather have two for different situations than not. And that would still leave the problem of trading it in and whatnot.

I'm really asking for what you guys think my local store's attitudes will be. I guess I'll find out tomrorow, but I'd like a little pre-emption

you might try returning it, if you're lucky they'll give you fully money back, or atleast in store credit, but it think you'd be better off selling it back to hte store than going on ebay for it...(unless if you're dealing wiht old cymbals) but just let them know, it's not exactly what you wanted and you've only had it for a day but you're still looking for something and if htey have it you'd trade it in
