well as you know, i recently got a pearl ELX and well i have had a set-up idea.....

i got the kit in fusion size and i was thinking as i hardly use a floor tom, why do i bother having one!? So my idea is too take away the 14' floor tom and mount it along with the 10' and 12' toms.

so at the moment i have 3 mounted toms, and no floor tom, ihave placed a ride where the floor tom usually is. i was just wondering if you think this is a good idea or not, as i think its pretty kool, and it feels like my original set-up...

so what do you guys think?.....please let me know about anything. cheers guys

I didn't know that..

I guess.. what's the point? If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'd concentrate more on learning to play the drums then trying to experiment too much.

There's a good number of reasons that drumsets look like they do, set up like they do.

Still a floor tom really.

That term mostly applies to size now adays. Many people, such as myself, use all rack mount toms.

I don't think it really matters. Its just the same tom in a different position. Just make sure that it is easy to get to and it should be ok.

I think its a dumb idea. If you hardly ever use it, why move it? Just leave it where it is, in use or not.

I would just leave it where it is to get a good feel of playing it.It might occur that you have to get drum lessons and I can guarantee that the teacher would not have his floor tom where you have yours...so I think it would be easier and it would look better where it belongs.Regardless of how often you use it.

if u hardly use it, u need to increase ur movement around the kit,

If you like it that way, then power to ya. I personally like having the toms all up front like that, having the ride down there sounds pretty comfortable too.

Seems cool to me. If I remember correctly, Igor Cavalera of Sepultura has no floor toms and a ride where one would normally be. Not like he needs floor toms though because he practically has bass drum size toms mounted over his bass drums.

mm , well it depends on wich music your playing...

When playing metal you usually tend to have a lot of toms...
Punk drummers usually have 1 Tom on to ( or next to with the new 26" bass-drum hype) their bass-drum and 2 floor-toms.

I think you just should try out lots of stuff and keep the one you like best

I'm with the majority here. If you don't use it I don't see why moving it is going to help really. In my opinion, leave it where it is and try and experiment with your rolls and fills and try to incorporate it (as a floor tom) into your playing.

We all should focus on playing but moving something can open up possibilities and give us some ideas that aren't possible without moving something. For instance I moved my ride to my ride right above the hats so its closer to me and I can play open handed and double handed patterns on it.
