My friend and I have a problem when playing online. We can join other servers, but I can't join a server created by him, and he can't join a server created by me. If I run a wired connection straight from my modem to pc, he can join my server, so we've figured out that it's the wireless routers that are blocking us. We can't ping each other either. Anyway, my question is.. how can I get it so he can join my servers? I've tried looking through the router's admin page but I can't figure it out.. I tried disabling the Block Anonymous Internet Requests but that didn't work. I have WEP 64 bit encryption and MAC filtering on, but that's just for the wireless network security. Any ideas?

It is because you both have dynamic IP's and maybe need to open up ports.

I have the same problem, but I'm too lazy to fix it.

Thanks bro.. ughh that looks like a lot of words but once I get my gaming PC set up I'll need to fix it because I won't be able to plug it straight to the modem.

Ok I just did that.. it was a piece of cake actually. Ok, now I have a Sygate firewall so I'm guessing I need to use that to open a port to my friend's IP address for say, Swat 4, if I want him to be able to join my servers when we play Swat 4?

You might not need to open a port, depends. Try it normally and if it doesn't work try here...

Ok that website has my router.. but I looked at the stuff and I don't have a problem connecting to say America's Army or Limewire or anything else on that list.. I can join whatever server I want but not my friends. So wouldn't I need to open a port to his specific IP?
My friend isn't on right now so it might work if we do it normally.. but I don't know right now.

Yeah, do you know how to open a port to his pc?
He might need to do this too, not positive on that. I haven't had any problems yet with games, just like soulseek and aim.

Well, would I need to do it through my firewall or router? I guess my router, since going straight to the pc allows him to join my servers. I'm not sure how to open a port with my router.

http://www.routerlogin.net if you need a login, just try admin as the login and password as the password.
Go there in IE. Scroll down to port forwarding/triggering and you should be able to figure it out from there.

That just sends me to netgear.com. I tried it in IE, and I also tried http://routerlogin.net and it also fowarded me to netgear.

If I'm running a Sygate firewall and NOD32 anti-virus, would it still be too much of a security risk to try hosting the game in the routers DMZ?

You do know that opening a port is different from fowarding it, Right?
Fowarding the port just means things that pass through that port.. go past the router without getting blocked....
opening your port up means its a free pass at your computer

Yeah, I wasn't sure if that worked for any other router companies. Look for something similar on the Lynksis site or whatever.

Yes.. but simply putting my PC in the DMZ is a lot easier..

Ok now I can't get my XBOX wireless adapter to work. :( I have the right DNS servers manually entered, but I don't know how to find out what IP/gateway etc to enter.

This is the error msg I get when I enter in the static IP/subnet mask/gateway that are displayed on my router admin page.
The Network Gateway could not be reached. Verify the IP addresses match the settings provided by your ISP.
