this may seem as a really stupid thing, but it is so annoying it make you want to throw that retarded 8" tom out the window:angry:
Today i got my brand new pearl ELX kit, but it has FOUR rack toms, so the 8" tom gets in the way of my hi hats, and the tom arm is too short to be able to put it in a good position. The pictures show it in a temporary position (the best i couyld manage after 2 hours of trying to find out a decent angle)
Well, also as an opportunity to post pics of my new set:) heres the links:

hmm..u could just offset ur bass so that its angled more to ur left..iv seen plenty of kits setup with 4 rack toms.

i might also convert ur 13" into a suspended floor tom. u have choices!

it cant really be seen in the pictures, but the tom is right below a cymbal, and really far out from where i sit, so its really uncomfortable to reach out and have a SMALL area to hit the tom without hitting the cymbal accidentally

Well, the only thing you can do is move your hats back and then get your tom in position. I would get the 8 inch in a comfortable position first then fiddle with your hats till you get them comfortable. You might have to compromise a bit.

get a 2nd kick and it'll solve your mounting problems ;)

you could try shifting all the toms down, so you have the 10 and 12"? on the bass, more to the right, and then the 8" goes approx where your 10 is now, and the other two as "floor" toms

Finally someone feels my pain. I would kill for another 2002, but I can't afford it yet. I just want one more... just one...

i was planning on getting either an 18" medium crash, an 18" rock crash or a 17" RUDE crash ride.
BUT... thats topic for another thread

I spent all of this and last year's savings on that crash and this drum set, its just too much money.... (why are paistes so expensive!!!???)

Have you played the Full? That's the one I have, I need another 18" to complement it.

Yeah, mess with the placement a bit, so you can hit it, thats a good position generally.

YES!!! full crashes are the sh!t man, specially the 17 + 18". Try also the 18" power crash, very nice, but its sustain is a little bit too long
i envy your crashes

Why not have say your 14 on the left side of your hi hat as you dont have an aux snare

Look into Rick Latham's set up (drummerworld.com). He has his tiny tom set up similar to yours.

Get rid of that random black floor tom, then shuffle all the drums that were to the left of the black tom, one space to the right.

Do a peart style Decenting tom thing

move your biggest floor tom over to the left, and bump everything over.

How about that? I use this at my guitarists house and its very comfortable...Bad cymbals though..

How far away is that hihat from the snare though?!

And the cymbals are a pretty far reach. Nothing wrong with Sab Pros either..

punkrocker2o1
12-26-2005, 02:34 PM
Not very far...2 of those are Sabian Pros which are okay, one crash is B8 First Crash and the hihats n 2nd ride are Tosco by Sabian which not too bad.

The cymbals are actually fair close although this picture was taken by me some months ago and the stands are messed up so the B8 is always at a weird angle but they are closer now..except the Pro ride which hurts to play...

hahaha thats exactly what i did!!! that second kick works wonders for solving mounting problems.....much more comfortable to play a double bass kit imo anyways.....but thats just my opinion of course

Thats good stuff.. but then you wouldnt be able to do any random hi hat fills or rolls.
Il probably stick to the shifting the toms idea, ill just get a clamp and move the 13" over to the right........or get another bass drum:naughty:
