Well I want to record some stuff to my computer nothing fancy just so I can have it on the computer. Umm how do I go about doing this? How do I connect my amp to the puter and how do I record it? Software? I think I once took a 1/4 to standard headphone jack and pluged it into the amp and then a double sided headphone jack from the amp to the mic input is this ok?

the mic input is fine, you will need a 1/4-1/8 converter which can be purchased at a local radioshack.

I think it's rather impossible to go from 1/4 to USB. Please, someone prove me wrong, I want to see this.

there's no chance in hell you're going to be able to go from 1/4 to USB. your 1/4 would be throwing around an analog signal, and USB is a digital interface. it would have to be digitized first (what the line-in on your soundcard would do)

what he said, go 1/4 to 1/8. then into the line in on your soundcard. for recording check limewire or something, cakewalk is easy to use as is audiocity

I personally just go from bass -> radioshack 1/4th cable with radioshack 1/4th to 1/8th converter -> line-in on soundcard...I never use my amp, since it distorts what comes through the line-in

I personally use audacity for recording. it's free and it gets the job done...you don't need some mega fancy program to record bass. if you wanted to mix it with other instruments then yes, but to just record? no

straight into the mic input or the line input depending on your bass will do fine.... you might want to run it through a preamp or some kind of DI box first though if possible...

then theres any number of programs you can use, ranging from sound recorder, audacity (free dowload - and highly reccomended) ... to programs like cubase and protools which will set you back several hundred
