alright, so after getting muchos money for christmas, i started making a list of things i need for my set, you know, the basics: twolegged hi hat stand, crash cymbal, cowbell, china cymbal, new snare stand, and a new snare.
now, i have a wooden snare that came with my cb beginner set, and its kinda going to **** as time marches on. but i realize that i dont really know anything about good snare drums, so i was wondering if the awesome people here in d&p could help me.
what kind of snare is a good choice to invest in?
thank you :D

aznriceball, im actually loving my cb kit, and i hav no urgent need to replace it, except for the snare of course, and im hoping to spend less than 200$ (canada!) on the snare.

I hate how everyone says the black panther snare drum, but most people that suggest it don't have it or they never played it.
Anyways...good drums for cheap:
Pearl Sensitone
Pearl Chad Smith snare
Snares for a little bit more:
Ludwig Suprafonic (:D)
Premier Modern Classic Snare (Maple, birch, or metal)

Music123.com had a KILLER deal right now on the satin black laquer USA maple 5x14 snare. $299 with free shipping! The other colors have all been sold for over $650.
Black panthers look nice, but you don't see many pro's using them. Hmmm - I wonder why....

ya, i just went to john bellones today, and all of their snares are atleast $400, so i spent all my money on a sabian b8 china and crash, then got a dw hihat stand and a gibralter snare stand.
except for the china, i really needed these things, my snare stand wobbled everywhere, and hihat stand, the part that holds the bottom cymbal broke off, so ya, and i couldnt stop admiring how even my hihats were on the dw, it was orgasmic.
i guess im just gunna hav to save my money little by little to buy a black panther, or sumthing just as decent
thanks for all your help though:D

Another one you may want to check out is a Dixon 13x4 Maple Snare. I was completely suprised by this thing. Its only 120CAD, but it was good enough to give me a hard time deciding which snare to go with when I got my BP snare.
