ok so some of you might remember how i defretted a shortscale neck a while ago. well now it's on the body and strung up (to prevent warping) and i was wondering, what stock (not dimarzios or s.d.s etc) would give me the best tone? what i'm looking for in my sound is something that will make a shortscale sound more like a normal scale and not put on too much high end. also they have to be able to fit into cavities that would fit a gibson PAF pups and have 1 tone and 1 volume (but if need be, i can make a new pickguard).

the pups are like those, but have 4 poles (bass)

the red one on the bottom left looks like it the most, just the pups aren't angled and they're slightly closer to the bridge. mine also has a 1 piece bridge.

Probably just more Gibson pickups? You can buy them direct now.

i looked for gibson bass pups, but since gibson doesn't make basses without double coil humbuckers anymore (that i know of) not only is it hard to find any like that of a les paul bass or g-3, but theyre very expensive if you do.

Well is it really worth all the trouble to keep it stock?

Maybe you could try and make some sort of deal for the Pickups in Explorer bass. :P I sold it to Potatoe. I don't know what his plans for the bass are, but I don't think he'd be willing to part with them...

All I can suggest is watch ebay and buy a gibson bass that is kapput and take the pups from it.

Edit: I was searching for some parts for my basses and I came across this thought you might be interested. Schaller bass bucker - http://www.schaller-guitarparts.de/1345.htm

that bassbucker looks interesting. however that schaller site isn't very descriptive with price or size, and considering that it's a double coil humbucker, it might not fit. but i'm definately going to try and find out more.
