Hi, i've been playing with my ashdown and for some reason, when I turn the volume up, the lower strings causes the cab to rattle, why is this happening?

Maybe the grill's loose?

well, i'll check that in a sec, but would it have anything to do with it having 10" speakers?

Thonk

I don't think it would..Unless maybe the speakers themselves are loose.

ok, thanks for the help, ill see if the rattling is from the cage, hang on

No problem.

i took the grill off and it was still rattling, all the speakers are securely inplace. Are 10s supposed to rattle or something, because a load of 6 string players use 10s and I dont think they get rattling (maybe they do)

Hmm...

I don't know what to tell you man..Sorry.

that happened to me with my 1X10 combo

maybe you're pushing it too hard... there other ways of acheiving low end without actually turning up the lows

can you tell me what they are then?

I think i'm simply boosting the bass too high or combating it at the wrong approach, I could try small amounts on my bass EQ and the Ashdown EQ instead of making one high and the other low or something perhaps. How did you fix it with the 1x10

Mids are our friends.

You can get a bassier tone with cutting treble.

my birthday is in 5 days, would getting a 15" cab be worth it??

Thonk

I don't really think getting a 1x15 would be totally necessary..but if you can get it for your birthday, why not?

Phalanx

well, would the 1x15 stop the rattling, would the 2x10s handle the treble and the 1x15 handle the bass sidE?

Play closer to your neck, and use your Neck Pick Up Over your bridge pickup.

To Many Bridge = treble, neck = bass, atleast to me.

i dont think the ashdown has proper bi-amping capabilities, so no, probably not

i found the problem, we lifted it up and something slid inside it, we looked in with a torch, the tweeter has completed snapped off (must have been from postage).
What a great way to end a christmas day, amp came which I was excited for and it breaks on delivery

I had a nice suprise with my Ashdown today. There was a rattling when I cranked it... but only when it was loud...

...it was a glass on the table moving around!

Phalanx, I've tried a MAG C210t-300 with a MAG115. It was AWESOME, was hoping to get a MAG115 for xmas but instead my parents ordered me the Ashdown Drive Plus. I'm now looking to purchase a 115 myself

u could cut the highs, boost the low mids

also try boosting the lows on your amp and cutting them out on your bass and vice versa that did something for me.....i get by with just enough lows to keep my speaker from rattling, and top it with low mids

I'd watch the VU meter too when your playing. If it goes into the red, it can make for some nasty buzzing type sounds out of the speaker. If the input is set too low and the VU meter doesnt move much at all, your sound will be very trebly (sp?) as well. The input level can have a big impact on the sound you get out of the cab/head.

That would suck if there wasn't...Good luck with it though Phalanx.

Phalanx, send it back, but before you do i'd contact the guys you got it from. The postage should be insured, so they can contact the courier and get them to pick it up whilst they send you out a new one/you pick one up from them...

yeah, i've sent it back now. Hopefully they'll be sympathetic, I was originally going to get the Combo version (MAG 300 head with the cab built in) but they didn't have it in stock so they sent me the head and cab instead. Sucks so much the tweeter snapped off in the post :(
