i presume, now dont go quote me on this because honestly i dont actually know, but i do believe that it has something to do with the pick guard maybe?
or with a plated top?
meh. something to that effect...
google it, maybe youll find it.
edit: why do you need to know, and where did you see/read it?

soon im buying a guitar and in the description it said w/plate and i forgot what it meant

Ah yes. The prefix "w/" is shorthand form of the word "with".
"w/plate" means it has a pickguard. Observe:

EDIT: The term "plate" is short for "scratchplate" which is the same as a pickguard.
