Hey, I'm new here

I was looking to create sort of icey / antarctic-like music. I have an electric piano and electric guitar (and got leads to plug them into the PC).

I've been trying to find music that gives that sort of 'feeling'. D# major / minor seemed to work very well to create this effect and I#ve done some music using those. Another thing I've found on acoustic is playing the top e string and tuning it down a semitone gives a great effect too. Anyone got anymore suggestions on how to make the ice/snow style of music?

Some ideas that come to mind are:

Wooshing sounds.

Constant "flurries" of gentle notes.

Flowing rhythm that is constant but not over-empasized. Perhaps a 3/4 or 6/8 feel would do nicely.

The closest I can do is recommend that you listen to the following artists:

Múm
Sigur Rós
Björk

(there's a reason they're all from ICEland)

Ah kk thanks for the advice

I'm no music writer (I'm 15 and I dropped music last year). I could try to recognise time but its only a simple idea (no need for sheet music really). For whooshing, I've done chords runnning in smoothly but would that be enough? Would anything done on guitar sound right?

I'll give those artists a check

You probably need a music program like Reason or Fruityloops or GarageBand or something to make the kinds of sounds you want. Some nicer keyboards might have them built in, too.

The first two are free, the second, I think, is only available if you have a Mac. Here's a site that has links to both Fruity Loops and Reason: http://www.creatopia.net/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=4&Itemid=27

Dry, slow organs is the way to go.
