Well for the most part I loved rush because of the drumming but yesterday I put on red barchetta and I listened to it and I decided to read along to the lyrics its a pretty cool story but the way he words it is awsome and music behind it fits soo well. Not only is the drumming stunning the bass playing unbelievable and the guitar work genious but the lyrics grasp you and make you want to listen more. For those of you who don't know its about Geddy(or Neil, he wrote them) going to his uncles house and finding a vintage car and racing it, sounds corny but its amazing how he sings it and how the music goes. Its also my favorite example of Neil's perfection.
Appreciate rush in this thread!

I have Exit...Stage Left on video, and when they're about to play Red Barchetta, Geddy prefaces the song, sort of like a commentary thing, by describing it as more than a car, but as sexual freedom. I found that interesting.
lol i like have everything they have ever released.

Red Sector A was the one that always caught my eye lyrically, great music too. But La Villa Strangiato is their best song, simply awesome.

what do you mean WAS? neil IS AS amazing of a lyricist as he IS a drummer.
lyrically, "the pass" is one of my favorite song. "between the wheels" is amazing as well. "Force Ten", "the enemy within" and "something for nothing" are great too.
ok, lets be honest, there all great.

listen to the words more carefully...
its about the future, an unmechonized future where you arent allowed to use gas burning machines.
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

A barchetta is actually a Ferrari...most likely the Ferrari 550 Maranello Barchetta...but depending on when the song was made you may be right...though i've never heard of it meaning Alfa Romeo

Rush are the win.
Freewill, The Trees and Limelight would have to be my favourite 3 songs, lyrically.
I don't think there's a single Rush song that I don't like.

Yeah, I love it too the ride pattern that is.
Its kinda funny I had red barchetta playing and right as soon as Geddy started singing I scrolled into the lyrics without knowning they were there.
Yeah I also kind of thought it wasn't about a car after you get past that because Neil was known for being a great philosipher but I'm not good at picking that out. Heres to rush! :chug:

Exuse my noobieness but who is Maynard(please don't tell me a death metal drummer) Forget it tools singer. I thought a drummer. Well his lyrics are different so you can't really compare them

Yeah figured that out and I don't agree, lyric wise Dylan is better(IMO) singing theres a couple, I'd say Plant, Dickenson, Dio, Tanakian and some others but yeah Maynard is deffinately up there.

Really. Maynard is easily one of the best singer out there, no buts about it. His range is superb, his screaming ability is basically perfect, and he's got many different voices that can enhance the music. Not to mention his lyrics are just...amazing. Really anyone who says otherwise obviously hasn't really read them thoroughly enouhg or understood them. But let's not turn this into a Maynard Appreciation Thread.
Peart is definately good in his own right.

Thats all an opinion and I'm pretty sure that your in the minority about his voice because after all he was what drove Zeppelin to where they stand, not to say that Page Jones and Bonham didn't have much to do with it(his solo career is nothing next to Zeppelin's legacy). In an opinion the majority is the one that is right and I'm sure that most people like Plants singing.
Again for british boy same thing, its all about opinion and yeah most people will like Maynard over Tanakian but I like Tanakians voice more then anybodies. He is why I like system of a down him, if it weren't him that band wouldn't work.

wha:confused:, since when is there a right and wrong on opinions? there isnt, nor will there ever be a correct opinion on anything. basically, dont try to justify your opinion by saying yours is right.
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth's singer) is more versatile than Maynard. His range of vocals and vocal styles is amazing. And you can't really compare the lyrics of Neil Peart to MJK's, as they're both really at the peak of their style.

Read the post you retart I never said it was right I said it was accepted and what is accepted is what is right. Yes segration was right to the people before they realized it was wrong. Right and wrong is not fact its all relative. Yes Hitler was right when he killed millions at the time why else would people follow him. Finnally yes the majority is right, why else would it be the majority, people aren't stupid, they pick what they like, people like Robert Plant, he is good, if 1 in 10 doesn't like him guess who's wrong. The one because the other 9 are going to disagree, okay to him Robert Plant sucks but the majority(key word) Robert Plant is good so that makes him good. eh? I think you need to read my post, then fockers post again. All my post was doing was A. Insulting him. B. Telling him he grusomly contradicted himself. I never said anything about relativity.
But since somehow that topic got brought up, I DO believe right and wrong are relative. One person may deem killing for the act of saving somone else "right" while another person deem the act murder no matter what the conclusion, and this difference in opinion DOES make it relative, because it is relative to the persons moral rights.

Im a huge rush fan. 3 of the best musicians that can sound like a 5 man band.
If you really wanna see rush in action check out their lives shows/DVD's, when you can pull off live playing with that kind of percision it shows the level of playing and true musicianship.
Their one of the bands I always go back to when I hear crappy music, just put on some rush and think... "Ahh yes this is the way it's supposed to be done!"

There's more to singing than just "oh his voice sounds cool>" How do you think people like the Temptations, or Isaac Hayes, get so famous? Their voice sounds "good" which has hardly anything to do with actualy vocal ability.
Singing is about emotion, and power, and range, and versatility, basically all of which Freddy has. But Maynard has it too, and lyric wise, Maynard blows Freddy out of the water. When Freddy takes 10mg of DMT and starts singing about becoming one with the rest of the universe, then we'll talk and maybe there can be a comparison.
I love Neil peart but he's not exactly one of my favourites
