Hey guys, I've been playing for quite some time now, but i couldn't tell you exactly how long. heres my problem. i cant seem to learn anything, because i think i started off wrong. i never really followed a learning structure. i just learned many really easy songs before and my teacher gave me a bunch to learn, but i never really evolved. i try to learn solos, but its really hard to follow solos in tab for me, and i think its because im an auditory learner (i learn by hearing, not as much seeing) i want to start fresh with guitar, and i want to learn it right. i need your help, guys (and gals). can you show me how to learn? what should i do? i need help and i need it bad. thanks in advance.

You might wanna try powertabs, if it ever gets back online.

^^^ or guitar pro(but powertab is free, you could prolly find guitar pro on p2p) it is the tab in midi form, so u can watch the tabs as it plays out. You can slow it down it really helps when ur learning songs.

I usually dont bother learning the solos to a song. I just improvise in whatever key.

Yeah but it's good to learn some of the phrasing to make it sound somewhat like the original.

And yes I highly recommend Powertabs/Guitar Pro. Why not try the guitar pro free trial to see what you think.

Also check the lessons section on this site. Learning some basic theory concepts and such will help you to play better in improvisation.

learning solos others have written helps your improv by teaching you new ways to look at an old scale

hey dude,
when i started, i just bought a guitar and an amp. it was just sh*t and stuff.
after like 6 months of just being a complete sucker, i decided to take guitar lessons. now i have lessons for like 2 or 3 months, and my teacher says that if i continue to learn like this, i am going to be a very good guitar player.
my point to you is: just take lessons, it helped me a lot, and i hope it helps you too, because i was freaking angry about that i sucked at playing.

Hey sdajafol, I took a few lessons a while ago,but the teacher was more into teaching how to read music.I never did nor do I want to know what all those "tadpoles"do.Did your teacher get all involved with this with you?Iam not impling this is a bad thing, but it made me lose interest real fast.(Thats me).I go with tab books and keep on it until I can memorize the song. This works for me. Sounds like your going in the right direction for you.Good-keep at it.

if you have a desire NOT to suck, its all about your practice methods
