Before I order It I want to know if this (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/600602/) is good. Like will it be fine for a beginner? Oh and with headphones, does it matter what kind they are. Can i just buy a crappy pair of closed headphones? Im thinking about buying these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search/detail/base_pid/241030/

I'd say that's a great start for a home studio. Just don't forget about the software, you can always start with Kristal or other freeware, but some time you may want to upgrade that. I use Cakewalk Home Studio.

I think I will be fine using kristal for now. I really like it. If I feel the need to I will get better software. But I was most worried about the hardware. Are those M-Audio monitors what I want? Will they give me a flat frequency for descent recording?

Oh and my mixer has a phantom power switch on the back. What is it for and when do i use it?

The phantom power is a power source for condensor microphones and DI boxes. It can be on safely with dynamic mics, as they just ignore it. However, most ribbon mics and some tube mics I think can be damaged by it, just check the docs of those kind of mics first.

If everything works without phantom power, it is a hint that you don't need it on. Always switch it off when not using it, because it is enough to blow your personal fuse, besides its potential to damage unbalanced equipment.
Those photobucket pictures appear to be gone. But most people start without proper monitors in their home studio so that's definitely a good start.
