Looked for a thread but there wasn't one that I could see.

So, this guy is awesome. His Veneer album is 11 tracks of great acoustic guitar playing with a voice to match. You've probably heard the song Heartbeats on the Sony Bravia TV commercial, and I think the song Crosses is being released as a single.

His playing sounds like a mixture of fingerpicked acoustic pop with flamenco and classical guitar stylings thrown in, very cool sounding.

He turns out to be from Sweden, which I mention because I always assumed he would be from Spain or Mexico or something like that because of his name.

That's all I've got for the moment, so, discuss what you've heard, or go hear some. I'll be buying Veneer in the new year, if I get some money for Christmas.

Sure is.

Anyone who likes his style of music should also check out James Orr Complex, either the Chori's Bundle album or Figa EP.

He's good. Veneer has some amazing songs (Heartbeats, Crosses, Slow Moves and Hints spring immediately to mind), but also has a few weaker moments. I'd give it 8/10.

Anyone seen him live? He's played a lot of dates but it seems mainly around Europe and the UK.

It sure is a nice album :). I'll be looking to pick up a copy in the new year.

My favourite tracks are Slow Moves, Remain, Heartbeats, Crosses and Stay In The Shade. I really admire his vocal/guitar style, I'm trying to get my own stuff to be that good but unfortunately my voice sucks far too bad.

I'd sure like to see this guy play live but I think the odds of him coming out to Australia are low.

Yeah, he's good. I don't listen to him alot though, but I like what I've heard. He got some recognition in Sweden a while back, won some awards and stuff. He did a nice song with Swedish rap-DJ Embee, called "Send Someone Away". And his cover of Hearbeats is sweet indeed.

How cut am I to find out that he played right near where I live on November 24th of last year, and I didn't know about him then. I don't think he'll be coming back anytime soon, people don't tour Australia very often.

I'll see if I can find this Send Someone Away song.

I haven't found it in sound format, though I've found a video for it: http://looptroop.nu/videos/sendsomeoneaway.wmv

Now can you see José walking around in Stockholm with that wonderful suit. It's really more of a Embee song than it is a José González song though, but I'm sure fans of José can dig it.

Thanks! I'll download that now. So is José really popular over in Sweden?

Nah, he's still pretty unknown I'd say. I mean, indie people know him, but it's not like he's a big name or anything. As I said, he won some awards at some thing a year ago or so, but apart from that he's rarely mentioned in any mainstream circles.

Ah fair enough.

I'm happy Jose has such a solid following. He's fantastic. I got my hand on rare Austrailan Tour EP and it's full of new material.
