i really dont understand the fuss and comotion that is made over this band. could someone please explain it to me. i borrowed one by one (i believe it was called) which wasn't too bad. i was surprised to see the amount of support they get from people who seemingly should know better. i dont want this to become a rant, but while i am talking about it, doesn't it really annoy people how much air time they are given? please name some strong tracks so i can judge without the iritation of 'best of you' being played 20 times a day and swaying my judgement .
thanks
Daniel!

Foo Fighters aren't very good at all. People only like them because people are dumb.

They are a tad naff, that's obvious. They've written some good stuff though and are a good live band.
Listen to:

DOA
Everlong
Hey, Johnny Park!
Monkey Wrench
Razor
Times Like These

thats more like the response i would have expected. but they get soooooooo much coverage and the likes. i know this doesn't make a band at all, i get the impression people haven't had a choice whether they like them or not, someone has decided they will and had them forced upon them.
on a plus - d.g seems nice

Foo Fighters are the most average band in the history of anything, ever. But, you know, they have some enjoyable stuff. And Dave is cool.

Bleh.
I love the Foo Fighters. I love "...There is nothing left to loose", one of my favorite albums probably. There slower stuff I find much better than their heavier stuff. One by One isn't a great CD, although it does have some nice songs (All my life, Halo, Times like these etc.). Grohl's voice has gotten worse over the years, though...
I can't stand "The Colour and the Shape", though. Their most famous album, ironically... Their new CD is OK.

other than that, they are bad.
Dave Grohl should stick to drums. thats when he truly wears the "mad-hat".

here's my take on them.
They play fun, good tunes. Nothing too fancy or anything but they are solid and write good catchy tunes. They are the quintecential pop-rock outfit that is out there today.

I don't really care about them. Overrated though. But, they do give good interviews.

Seems like you've only heard "The Colout and the Shape" (just a guess, as all the songs you mentioned are from there). You should really give "... There is nothing left to loose" a try. Just skip the first song.

For me their catalogue falls in between really great and bland. Their debut and The Colour and the Shape are both excellent albums that showcases a solid blend of poppiness and aggressive alt-rock. Everything else since hasn't been so great, but the singles are usually pretty top-notch.
Their songs have simplicity, but also a fair degree of intensity and emotion that sounds much more authentic than any of their contemporaries.
If anything, a lot of their popularity is often based on Dave Grohl's personality: He's just a cool guy laid-back who enjoys a wide range of music. Subsequently, the Foos also get a lot of flak because of Dave Grohl.
Plus they put on a GREAT live show, the archetype of a "rock concert" which is anything but bland, despite not using any sort props or fireworks, etc.
I think they're quite good but I know a lot of people on here don't.

I dunno, i would say One by One is, i think more people have heard of that than Colour, non fans that is...
Personally i really like Foos, i've only heard it once but IYH Disc 2 was amazing, though i've heard a lot of people not liking it.
I agree with the slower stuff, i prefer it to their heavier but its all good. Come Back is also a great song off One by One.

I was always a Colour and the Shape kind of guy. Even the B-sides from it were good.
Songs:
The Colour and the Shape (it was a B-side)
Everlong
X-Static
Exhausted
Generator
Ain't it the Life
Sister Europe (cover song)
Neoteric

The first two were good, the rest stunk.

I recently downloaded some random songs of theirs. I quite like them.
I just put it on in the background, so there is some music on.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks Stacked Actors is their best song? hehe

i may. so far everything i've heard off their last 2 albums has seemed kinda bland. i'll check it out though.

It's not bad, I just think it doesn't fit in with the rest of the album.

I think the first S/T album may be their best. Dave covers so many different styles on it really well- metal (Weenie Beenie), punk (Wattershed), pop (Big Me), and just straight forward alt-rock.
I don't know how many people know of Dave's pocketwatch demo's which was after Nirvana, before Foos. Some great rare songs on it- 1st version of "Friend of a Friend", "Marigold", "Winnebago". I enjoy that a lot also.

Their last two albums have really gone downhill (except for a few good songs on "In Your Honor")
Their first album is basically Dave's continuing the Nirvana thing which isn't bad. On "The Colour and the Shape" and "There's Nothign Left to Lose" he learns to write good songs, but all in the classic pop rock vain.
I'd recommend
"Aurora"
"Normal"
"Everlong"
Watershed"
That will give you an all around view of what the Foos are all about.

The Foos change their sound every album, much like many other bands. They have no real "key" sound, although they usually stay with that pop element, I'd say...
