After reading the winter concert thread, I decided I would post the recordings of my school jazz band during the winter concert. The set was : birthplace blues, beantown blues, crescent river ramble, and rudolph. I play upright in the first three, and electric in rudolph. The band doofs up in the middle of crescent river (my favorite song too  ), but we hide it well. Thanks for listning.
EDIT: i have a little solo type of thing at the beginning of birthplace, but that was before the sound was fully adjusted so it's nearly inaudable.

Really cool I might say :) You have a nice upright-groove!

As blasphemous as it is, I hate the sound of finger-plucked upright basses. Rudolph the Asshole was pretty good.
How many people do you have in your jazz band? It sounds like the brass section lacks a bit of power.

good stuff. I agree with FunkMetal, your brass section sounds like they have no power at all, no offense, but the saxes easily overpower the trumpets.
My jazz band didn't have a guitarist, which I enjoyed.
I should put some good jazz band recordings up sometime.... :thumb:

I definitely prefer bow in ballads.

In every song I can only hear 2 trumpets, and that twangy thing in Crescent River, I don't know if it's a piano or a guitar, but it's way too loud and all over the place. Whoever it is is a total noob at improving chords.

I thought that the twangy stuff was piano, is it guitar? :s

yeah no offense taken about the brass. They suck ****. whoever said something about hearing only 2 trumpets is correct. We have two that play, and 3 that pretend to play(because they suck and don't learn their music). The junior trumpet player is really good, but he really has to overblow to compensate for the rest of the players. The other player actually playing is a freshman. She surpasses the other three players with ease. there is no hope for the other three(two of which are juniors). I heckle them all the time. At lunch if they ask me to move over, i ask them to practice and then i'll consider it, so tehy end up sitting somewehre else(they're assholes). The piano player is a noob but she's good for the amount of time playing, and she also rocks *** at clarinet. The trombone player who does the solo in beantown blues has only been playing trombone for 6 months or so, and he also plays clarinet and guitar, and he pwns the **** out of the trumpet section.

cool
yeah, the saying of my high school brass section was "Our Brass Kicks ***!" The concert band was about 100+ people, and jazz band was pretty much whoever my band director thought was good got to play in it.
I guess I was lucky because my jazz band back in the good ol' days of high school was pretty well balanced. 8 trumpets (yeah, alot, but they didn't over blast the band), 4 trombones, and 7 saxes, and only one drummer, one bassist (me), and a piano player, who was pretty good for a freshman.

yeah. If more people in the band had more pride it wouild be better. I really hate it sometimes. My band director is very emotional. She flips out all the time. I'm on her good side because i play, bass, upright bass, and i play tuba in the marching band. On top of that i take music theory and piano, and i will be taking music tech in place of theory next semester. She pisses me off, she's screwed. The thing about the trumpet players that pisses me off is that they brag about how we are an award winning jazz band (last year in a competition we had a superior rating which is about 86-100 or something out of 100.), but they don't do anything to keep that title.
the saying of our marching band is: "FORAN HIGHSCHOOL MARCHING BAND!!! KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL!" in a military style question and answer chant.. Our new band director doesn't like that one though.

3 trumpets that suck. two that are good. We have two sick guitar players. One of them does a sax solo in crescent river ramble.
