I bought a new neck pickup for my bass. Its a Seymour Duncan Bassline (single coil). I installed it two days ago and it worked perfectly fine for my band practice yesterday. I layed it on my bed today and when I tried to play it, the new pickup wouldnt sound, but the bridge one worked well.

At first I thought that the soldering job (spelling correct?) was not strong enough, and that it had come loose. However, the soldered ends are holding together well, and I resoldered the more sketchy looking of the two. It looks like everything should be working well now, and yet I get no sound from the neck pickup.

The only thing I can think of is that somehow the pot got ruined (oh what a shame it is when the pot gets ruined).

Any help?

Anyone?

It could be the pot. I've ran across many pots that stopped working after being heated with a soldering iron. You have to work very fast and use minimal heat.

Hm... now that I think about it, I was actually wondering if the constant heat would do any harm while I originally installed the pickup. Wouldnt it be strange that it worked for about two days before breaking though?

Not really. If it went from hot to cold environments, the expansion/contraction could have finally done it in.
