Santana and his scale choices

My perception has always been that the Dorian mode is the "Santana style" - is this correct? How about the Phrygian mode or just the natural minor?

I've studied several songs now, and quite many seems to be based on combined scales, but what is the overall tendency?

I hate Santana. It just sounds like he whores pentatonic to me, or at times natural minor. I common to hear a dorian influence in anything minorish.

Strange statement. As long as it is minor, you tend to hear Dorian influences? Even if the Dorian mode is not used? Please elaborate.

I'm pretty sure he focuses on Dorian more than any other, but I've never looked really deeply into it.
